Edelbrock crate motors
Well the motor is out of my car and disassembled. It is an absolute mess. For a car that supposedly had 2,900 miles on it it has been driven hard and put away wet or the mileage was 1/4 of a mile at a time.
I am going to replace it with a crate motor from Edelbrock. Does anybody have any experience with the Edelbrock crate motors? Thanks, Lou |
I have heard of ford racing, keith craft, roush, gm, but never edlebrock crate engines. I would slow down and make some calls to keith craft and blykins, describe what you want and your budget and see what they propose. I can assure you after the sale service will be exponentially better and quicker than edlebrockk with some kid answering the phone...

The only crate engines I can see on their website is big block Chevy and mopar hemi.
Having a custom engine built by either of the two listed above can take months. If you need one in a hurry, try Roush, Smedding, Engine Factory, Ford, etc. they usually have engines ready to ship, but you don't know for sure who or how your engine was built. I had an engine factory 302 that blew the block apart at 12,000 miles and a Roush that needed a complete rebuilt at 13,000 miles. Hope your luck is better. |
I put in a 408 from Keith Craft. Well worth the 2 month wait. Everything I asked for and more. Very satisfied with KC

I would also check out bennet racing.

I'm guessing your like anyone else that just bought a new car or Cobra, you want to drive it and enjoy it and right now is the 'season" to be driving a Cobra... Unless your engine it total junk and everything in it is not re-usable or re-buildable, I'd suggest find a competent mechanic/shop in your area and see what it would cost to "go thru" the engine and rebuild it to what it should have been.... the time frame could be just a few weeks and cost a lot less than a crate engine....as with any crate engine, you could end up with a bad one and have just as many problems as you have now..... Just something to think about... David |

You are only about 15 miles away from FE Specialties in Auburn. Go talk to owner Tom Lucas before you lay out any of your hard earned money on a crate engine. Tom has a very good reputation and has built many high quality performance engines. His specialty is the FE engine, but I'd bet he could help you out with your motor. Also, take a look at his website. Ted |
Lou,
At least talk to Tom at FE Specialties. You may save some money if you can reuse parts, and it doesn't hurt to have a local builder if you need something. What ever you decide, good luck, and hope to see you at the local get togethers. |
