Before I went to the A1000, I went through a number of Walbro pumps that were in my tank. I'm pretty sure the problem was internal cavitation at the impeller as the fuel got hot. I was not running a PWM pump controller at the time.

I agree but the A1000 is a higher performance pump for racing purposes than what's found in OEM applications.

I do think Weldon is a better pump but back in the day the A1000 is what was recommended by the shop helping with my EFI installation and setup. I do have a Weldon pump in my supercharged C5 Z06 along with a Boost-A-Pump... again a modulated controller that increases the output of the pump as demand increases. The last thing you want while under boost is fuel starvation. As i understand the BAP uses pulse modulation to control the pump and boost pressure when needed.

More about BAP here:

All a Boost-a-pump does is jack up the voltage, the ECU still modulates the grounding cycle. A better choice for boosted engines is the MSD voltage booster that is programmable to increase fuel pump voltage depending on manifold pressure. This helps increase fuel pump life by not operating at high voltage continuously like a boost a pump does.
I have two on my GT one for each pump and they do not increase fuel pump voltage until I am over 12 PSI of manifold pressure.

As I understand the BAP only boosts the voltage when under boost. I have over 12 years and 40,000 mi without an issue. Has worked fine for me. YMMV

I agree 100% if U can mount it in the tank that is the way to go. FYI Weldon pumps use steel impellers instead of plastic one reason they last longer.

If u can mount the pump in the tank BOSH is another good choice.
