Fuel pumps.
What are the guys with a little above average power running?

What kind of fuel system is on the motor???
Little help here? Carb of FI? Fi system I run with a power adder was 2, 255liter walbro pumps in the tank on seperate lines to the injectors. Couple of guys are running weldon fuel pumps. Need to have this pump low as possible for pickup. Hope you have a couple of baffles in fuel tank. If running foam also, need to keep eye on it for breaking down with Methol in gas or race gas. Fuel lines are 1/2" and 3/8" return. If you are running a high power motor, this would be the correct sizes. If running a small stock motor 3/8" and 5/16" return. This is for either FI or carb. Rap and clamp lines about every 12" to stop any vibrations. Rick L. Ps try and keep away from the heated areas and rap the fuel lines also.

Say a 650/650 deal fe. Dual quad with -6an from tank to Holley and the -8an to the edelbrock pump at the engine with -8an to carbs. The -6 is probably going to be swapped out for -10an and the -8an used for a return line. The Holley at the tank and the edelbrock at the engine won't keep up. I guess what I'm looking for is how others have gone about it to see what is best practice and piggy back off that. Thx |

I too am in the hunt for a fuel pump to replace mine that is over 20 yrs old. It is still doing a good job feeding approx. 525 hp carbed 460. I was thinking a pump 80gph regulated, should do the trick with no more sustained racing speeds. |

My fuel system is probably overkill. Aeromotive A1000 pump, -10 line from tank to fuel log, and -8 return line. That's 450 inches, 800 horse.

Bigger lines are not really needed for 650'ish HP. 3/8" (-6) would be just fine. But, it gives you extra window of safety, and the pump doesn't have to work as hard.
I'm using an Aeromotive A1000 pump, with -8 feed and -6 return lines. Engine makes somewhere around 625 HP on E-85. The A1000 is kind of overkill, as I really don't need that much flow. But when I built the car that was what was available. Over the last 8 years, I'v had the car flat beded twice for mechanical issues. Both were due to a failed pump. I'm looking to replace it with something more durable. At the moment, the Holley billit pump is looking real attractive. Holley claims it's a 100,000 mile pump. I'd be pretty happy with 1/2 that. |
I use a single 240A left side to feed mechanical Carter.
427 uses............ 2 @ 240A right side feed |
10 AN from tank to 100 micron filter to Weldon electric pump. From pump, 8 AN to Weldon bypass regulator back to tank, and another 8 AN line to front of car, which feeds 40 micron filter to an Aeromotive deadhead regulator. That regulator then feeds a Quickfuel Q-850 using two AN 6 lines. 638 HP/567 TQ.

Just for closure: Plan moving forwards is to swap the -6 for a -8, and then use the -6 for the return. I'll keep the pumps as they are for the moment (Car doesn't get run ten-10ths anyway), and swap the Holley out for an Aeromotive or Weldon unit if I encounter any further problems. If anyone sees any flaws in this, please speak up now or forever hold your peace. |
Pro stocks run what some of you run on boulevard cars. You're not feeding 1400HP and 1500 CFM. Bruce is right.
Ditch the Ede mechanical and get a Robb Mc . Quality pump and great pressure. Forget electric pumps that supply more than 7psi and their regulators. Too many filters, fittings and junk in the stream means resistance and chances for leaks. |
RobbMC is a nice pump and that was my initial plan, but it had clearance issues with my Pond block. If you have a Ford block it will work, otherwise ask Rob.
