Right around the time the last air-cooled Porsche rolled off the production line, circa 1997, Porsche went from low production handmade classic works of art to mass-produced "meh." And the proof of that is the fact that the 993's (911's made from 1995-1998) series of 911's are worth more than the vast majority of the newer generation of Porsche's.

I would rather have an older VW Beetle, in decent condition, than a Boxster.

Because of the IMS Bearing failure, with an exception or two, I personally wouldn't buy any Porsche between 1999-2008. A lost generation.

As for a VW Beetle or Porsche 550 replica, I wouldn't own one of those either. But to each his own.

my oldest daughter is 12....I recently started looking at early gen 1 beetle convertibles for a father/daughter project that should last about 4 years

That's actually a good choice of a car. Not sure what area you are in but Mr. Pray who passed a little while back was a local businessman in my area. He had a VW and Porsche dealership among other businesses. He would collect all the early convertibles for later restoration. When Caldor department stores went out of business I let him store about 50 of them inside with some of my cars. I bet he had over 150 of them. He also was a collector of fine autos.

Oh I left out the best part of the James Dean Porsche. It disappeared on the journey back to California from it's publicity tour. No sign of the wreck anywhere! I heard a long time ago Barris was offering a million dollar reward for its return. Wonder if that offer is still good. He should start looking around Banksville, NY.

Is this your verified information? Where did you get that intel I already responded that one died and the other injured in a crash of the two you mentioned. Post the intel I'm going by what has been written about for decades. And up until a few years ago the 1 million offer was still on the table from a manufacturer. Also a part of the transaxle is currently in a Boston build. I may be wrong just post the intel. Just posting verified means zero to me without the intel. Oh by the way you may want to choose your words and smileys better because I didn't see you posting any major car manufacturers announcements prior to it becoming public knowledge as I did on this site.

Yes I saw that and responded to that before. That's really ancient history those parts. I guess I'm speaking on the wreck itself (car body)less those parts. I thought McHenry died while using the engine and the other you mentioned was in a severe accident.

Part of the transaxle was used in a Boston build going to look for the info now.

At the end of video Jack Styles name is mentioned doing a build with a part from Deans Porsche.

Below is detailed verified information on those parts. Body is still missing as stated and until a few years ago a major manufacturer offred 1 million for it.
As stated the wreck was/is located in Banksville NY and that's all I can say and that is too much because of litigation. Contrary to your little smiley comment I do know what I speak on.

The James Dean Porsche Spyder Transaxle

Ummmm sorry outdated intel onyour part.

But riddle me this since '69 & 70 is your expertise... has a pink Shelby that was given to a playboy playmate back in the day ever resurface? feel free to ask the registry experts.

Ciao

Edit: I don't mind being corrected if I'm wrong. I hate repeating wrong intel.

Not so outdated when I last spoke to Mr Barris (circa 2009), but you can read into whatever you can find on the web to try and make yourself sleep at night.

As for the Pink Shelby, last heard, it was now painted grey and was seen in Mexico. But again, feel free to show how smart you are and see if you can find something to counter that one on the web.

Troll on my friend, troll on.

Well the information was verified by a major network. And it was old information you posted even if updated by Barris yesterday. That's what he did way back when. You fail miserably to follow the current stream. As far as the pink Mustang if you do know I will relay that info because I do not know the information and was asked about it this past year. See I told you that you know more than you are willing to admit. All you need to do is conduct yourself professionally. Enough of the wise ass cracks and stalking. You are the one bringing things into the negative with your remarks. Someone gives an idea of a giveaway and you call me a troll. Please save yourself some time and stop with the stalking. Yes that is what it is following me around and calling me a troll. As pointed out obviously protected by a moderator that is unbalanced in his actions.

And if the owner is too busy on other sites than sell this site to someone that will nourish it and provide professional moderation.

When members have been on a site so very long and have gotten away with a lot of crap they are led to believe they have some power to practice unwanted behaviors here. And since so much went unchecked for so long... longtime members do not believe that they do any wrong when they in fact act hostile and troll-like.

Barris may not know what happened to the parts once they were in the hands of the two gentlemen mentioned. And are you speaking of the same man that took credit for another mans work on more than one occasion. (Jeffries) I lived in southern California for many many years and know most of the old timers.

And MrMustang I have read my posts have you read your own? I don't believe I was the instigator in any post
unlike some of yours and select members here. Why would you use regurgitated and terms like that when a member posts a duplicate thread.

Do as you like you have gotten away with the behavior for so long might as well keep remain in the negative. I hope you don't own a business here?

Funny how in that CSX 1000 thread you seem to repeat I'm not arguing, but in fact you continued to argue. You posted old intel and you can not admit it. And unlike you I provided the news link and documented evidence of ownership on the investigation of the chain of ownership of parts. Your fancy talk save it for others, all you did was a side step.

Maybe the love for my car is too much, but I would not consider selling it. The other day a guy who owns one of the new Mercedes SLs with the gull wing doors ($200K + cars) was at a show I was attending. Parked behind my car and asked me if I would sell the car.
I was dazzled a bit by him having such a nice car and wanting to buy mine. I replied that it was not for sale, he replied " everything has a price" I said yes but this is not for sale. He continued to insist and just to see his reaction I said to him lets start at $120K !! without batting an eye he said seriously ? Ok lets do it , I immediately back pedaled and said nope just joking.

Notwithstanding all this exchange, he said if you consider selling here is my card call me and the price you gave me is not a problem...

Maybe I am stupid but I am having too much fun with the car of my dreams, oh well that's just me.
