I carry in my glove box aproduct called 2nd Skin Burn Pads. Instant relief if the inevitable happens. My wife thinks we need to put those little stick figures you see on the backs of mini-vans, one for each snake bite victim, on the front fender.

Both the wife and I got bitten and it is not fun, its stays with your for over a month, especially in the achilles tendon area--- son of a gun it hurts to walk. Wife has done it twice but her problem is the short legs and fast brain.**) Carry a first aid kit in the survival duffle bag for that too.

Snakebite prevention kit
Bought a set of polished stainless sidepipe guards and figgered I'd put 'em on last week. Driver's side went without a hitch, but when I got to the passenger's side, the guards wouldn't fit. What the???
Turns out that the sidepipes on the driver's side are an inch further out from the body than on the other side. I took a friend for a ride recently. After warning him several times about the pipes, I stopped the car to let him drive. He was so excited he jumped out quickly and yelled. Since he was wearing shorts, he got it really good. Worst burn yet. The funny thing is he is a Surgeon and for weeks afterward he complained about the pain while standing for long hours. I told you so!
The funniest one was my friend Brian. We went to lunch in our suits. I warned him, but he did it anyway. When I looked at the side pipe, a patch of polyester was stuck to it. He had a big hole in the back of his pants leg as well as a burn. But, it only happens once and then you get careful. RS |
Never bitten by a Cobra only twice by our Harleys in 52 yrs. Reading these posts reminds of a friend one day got his wedding band between starter post and ground, before he could break the weld the ring was red hot.
It takes these sorts of burns and injuries for some to learn others feel they are indestructible, thus the tattoo's, brands, whatever label we attach to them. |

My car came with mild steel pipes that had been wrapped with fiberglass heat tape.
there were so many cracks there was no start or stop welding point. I replaced the headers and side pipes twenty years ago . I had the same problem because the engine was not centered for weight distribution. My headers were header pipes bolted to a flange an then the four pipes all turned to exit the body and the collector and then the muffler and then finialy short turn out. I made a thick spacer where the headers met the collector, in side the engine bay. I used layers of thick copper I cut over sized plates to match the bolt together flange . I then aneled , stacked and filed the stack to make a solid gasket-spacer with 8 bolt and 4 exhaust holes. I had a way out. I have no idea of your side pipe configuration. |

It's funny hearing all these stories. but I will keep that in mind when I finish my build

Just as BAsque1 and others have suggested, welding blankets work great. Have a few on hand, at least for your passengers. Keep one folded up behind the passenger's seat and another one in the trunk for when that first one blows away in the wind. :LOL:
