CSX3150 1934 Ford Hot Rod?
I was reading Shelby Cobra Fifty Years by Colin Comer tonight and ran across the 1934 Ford Hot Rod on the CSX chassis thought to be 3150, but true identify unknown.
Does this car still exist? I really like the roadsters, but this Hot Rod is cool and ubber-unique. Any additional information on it? I Googled it, but couldn't find anything else. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a78...psc2adb16e.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a78...ps0d3051ca.jpg |
So since 1976 still no idea what chassis it is???

Reread the captions, sounds like he restored it back to CSX3150 as an S/C, thinking that's what it originally was. Kind of ashame, that was a cool cammer coupe.

There is a magazine or book write up somewhere about Karl Bullocks SC he built/restored/recreated/saved from the jaws of destruction, all of the aforementioned blah blah whatever. I remember that article had him line it up with a Vee Max. They were touting both as not just cruising vehicles but trolling for fresh victims.
The Vee Max won as they were the Cobra of their day. http://books.google.com/books?id=KEt...0V-max&f=false |
Back in the late 70's, the "process of elimination" to arrive at a serial number was not as sophisticated as it could be today, and it didn't take into account any VIN's that were registered outside of the U.S. Big problem. The car was restored and stamped as CSX 3150, but the genuine article surfaced shortly thereafter in Australia with a long history as well as well-defined ownership trail. Whoever stole or otherwise dealt with the chassis Carl used clearly did not want its identity discovered, as the VIN-stamping had been center-punched and then welded over, which rendered the possible tricks used to ID the VIN on there shock tower useless. Which leaves one with a great car, but no legitimate identity.

I once met a guy who had a rod exactly like this who claimed that it had a genuine original Cobra "engine" out of a CSX car. He owned a welding business called Stainless Steel Specialties on Washington Ave. in Peekskill NY. I don't believe its still in business. He would drive it around constantly but I haven't seen it in years.
