Suspect faulty MAF sensor

Can anyone help me out here. I suspect the MAF sensor is faulty, I have been away for 2 years and the motor has not been started.

On my return the engine is now running terrible, extremely rich, bad idle ( up and down) stalling and black smoke pouring out the exhaust when you try and give some revs.

I have cleaned out the throttle body and the idler air control valve, I have cleaned the MAF sensor and it still runs bad.
When the MAF is unplugged it actually runs much better. Any ideas?

Start with Maf sensor

Damo Yes the sensor is damaged. I don't know how you tryed to clean the throttle body and MAF sensor but, you never SPRAY any cleaners on the MAF sensor. This collects on the hot wire ones and is like a magnet for dirt and the wire doesn't give out the correct air flow reading. Same appys for cleaning a throttle body. Cleaning a throttle body, Turn key on for 2-3 seconds and turn off. remove throttle body from motor. Unscrew IAC screws and seperate from throttle body. Clean body with a RAG and cleaner on it, DON'T spray it down. The throttle blade shafts ar either lubed and stay this way from carbon buildup at the shaft. Some throtle bodys have bronze bushings and other are just using the aluminum body as pivot point, metal on metal wears out the housing and or shaft. Clean IAC port with "Q" tip and cleaner. blow out throotle body with air and reassembly unit. reinstall. Relearn may happen with idle. Idle will come down as car is warming up. couple of road trips will be back to normal. BIG SIDE note, Stay with OEM parts. You will see $50.00 MAF sensors and $400.00 sensors. The cheap ones are junkyard rebuilds with 90 day wonders of hope. Buy new and go to a junk yard and get a spare one to keep in a kit in the trunk. Good luck. Rick L.

If it hasn't been started in two years, you might have gunked up injectors. I had to replace the injectors on an engine I bought that had been sitting around for a long time.
