When I was in high school about about 200 years ago the State required that high schools carry a class called "Farm Shop" which was basically a big automotive and machine shop where we learned to work on cars and tractors, weld, fabricate sheet metal etc.
I doubt there are many schools with classes like that anymore...

These are the best thing since sliced bread and despite all the comments above about the limited grass roots knowledge of todays youth, its not hard to teach them how to operate it- all they have to do is transfer the grip position.

One year old gas is perfectly fine if there is no free water on the bottom of the tank. Gas not exposed to water should last 3 years with no problems. Smell and color is not a very good measure of gasoline quality. The picture of the two fuels being different color and one good and one bad fuel is just not realistic. Actually, fuel is a lot more stable today than it was years ago because of the increased refining of the fuel. Jet fuel and diesel turn color over time. Jet fuel has a color spec, but it is more about "human feeling good" about flying in a plane with clear fuel vs the turbine running perfectly on dark fuel. The key is water. No water and the fuel will last a long time. Now if it has been in an open container and some of the fuel has evaporated away you will have drivability issues. But, hey, if you want to dump out good fuel, the choice is yours. Dilution is a good option if you are worried, fill that 42 gallon tank and take a road trip! How old do you think the crude is when it is pumped out of the ground?
