Radiator guard

Am I the only one that worries about sucking a chicken or what ever in to the radiator? Has someone given it a thought on installing a removable stone guard in front of the grill kind of like you see on some street rods. I have found vendors that sell stone guards for some street rod models but nothing at all for a Cobra!
Thanks for looking and thank you for any reply!

6K on mine never had an issue other than bugs and leaves. Actually have one for the car never put it on.

On 2 occasions, I've had birds (mourning doves) go through the grille opening and slam into the radiator. In neither case did it distort the fins noticeably, but in both cases the birds were DOA. Anything bigger or harder than a bird might bend up the fins, though.

I made a simple radiator stone guard like the one in this link.

We actually had what I think was a Seagull fly into our radiator. I have the Finish Line window screen that covers mine. The birds beak put a pretty good dent into the frame of the guard.

With twin pusher replica fans in the path no worries. Chewed up before the radiator fins.

I've hit Possum, armadillo, Squirrels, a Skunk, and at least two or three birds in the 100,000 or so miles in a Cobra. Only once did it result in a hole in the radiator, and that was the armadillo, strong little sucker cracked the oil cooler scoop on the way in, lodged itself in to the lower right corner of the radiator of a SPF I was driving at the time. Thankfully, our group was close to a service station that allowed us to store it inside overnight until we got a truck and trailer to go get it. Sent the old radiator out to Afco, they duplicated it two weeks later.

Knock on wood no damage so far in over 20 yrs. Morning doves did not have enough mass the one time we did have a scare.

I had one that I made out of the same stuff that the link shows but only put it on when racing. Never had any problems with anything hitting my radiator in all the driving I did.

Thanks to all you guys for many good fixes to save the radiator. Me living in farming country and out in the sticks you have about everything crossing the rod. So before the next driving season starts for me I will have something in place!
Thank to all of your replies!
