We didn't do it to each other after every workout--usually just after the ball-busters. My nephew is a complete animal and he chose "Death by pull ups--race to 100" one day. I hated that. He always beat me...he did 50 or 55 straight, if I remember, right off the bat. The rules were as soon as the guy dropped from the bar you HAD to jump on and start pull-ups. We switched back and forth until we got to 100. Those last 10 are the hallucination zone. The worst part was leaving your skin on the bar. We usually did this after a 10 mile run through the city and parks laced with pull ups, push ups, hill climbs, and any other sort of torture we could think up. I loved working out with that guy. I always got him back with presses. I could press 175 x 5 reps. (Standing press with a barbell). I want to press 200 in 2015. David :):):) |
That sounds pretty elite level to me. Were you or your nephew ever able to do a true one handed pull up?

As for elite...me, no. My nephew...yes. Me no...I just refuse to give up. I used to tell my kids, "You can run away...but I will eventually catch you. It may take 50 miles but I will catch you." They knew it.
Today, however, my sons are pretty awesome endurance monsters and can run circles around me. What do you expect--they are 18. One of them took his shirt off last year in the Snow Shoe Marathon and ran down the mountain side waving to everyone (my wife and I were climbing up the mountain at the time). It was 6 degrees outside. They are some of the toughest guys I have ever seen. David :):):) |

My son is in his last year at UCLA and in 3 intramural basketball teams, practices and works out with the varsity team too. Point guard...not huge but solid like a rock. He came home for Holidays and I finally looked at him and said to myself "Damn! This kid may just be finally be able to kick my ass!" It is a turning point for many I am sure...;) |

I really am not elite by any means. I gained weight this year and my cardio has gone down quite a bit with my buyout of Thomas. I actually don't do Crossfit any more because of my heart attack. I just can't risk the chronic inflammation. That is probably a discussion for another thread, however. I still enjoy rowing, skiing, and kettlebells. I have a 100 pound kettlebell I used to swing. I probably couldn't do that now. I am more into barbells. My brother, however, swings that monster 1 handed...really. It's incredible to watch. I really like hiking, and truth be told, I lift to hike with my nephew, sons, dog, and wife. I always loved hiking. My wife, however...she is unbelievable with Crossfit. |

300 pounds? Yeah, before Thanksgiving and Christmas I felt like 200 pounds, actual weight, now I feel like 300 hahaha -- drinking Coffee and having a danish with my wife....:LOL:

Talked to my nephew today at Christmas dinner. I did 46 pull-ups that day (in a row). He remembered because that was how old I was when we did that crazy Dessert. He did 55--I thought I was watching a gorilla. I didn't remember the exact number because we were going for 100 and 46 was nothing more to me than a way too brief stop that day on the bar of pain to 100. We both left blood on the bar. He tore like 5 callouses off. I was lucky and only lost 3. We superglued them back on the next day and kept working out. He is 1/2 my age. I was bummed I didn't get 50. After reminiscing of those days--and deciding we needed to get rid of some prime rib--we decided to go for a hike/run today up Rock Canyon trail with my crazy dog. 2 miles up (hike) and two back down (run). Rocky probably did 10 up and 10 down :LOL: I measured one of his leaps at 16 feet--uphill! He is the most graceful creature I have ever seen. I love that guy. There was over a foot of fresh snow on the trail. I absolutely love the canyons in the quiet snow. David :):):) |
Pete, I'm more like you. 12 oz. curls are my exercise of choice. ;)
