Just took delivery

Of my new Backdraft Racing 427 Cobra. I have had several people ask me about the hooks on the front and back. I have always thought they were for tie down. Someone told me they were for jacking up the car. Can anyone direct me to the history of the hooks, I can't find anything searching for it. Thank you.

Quick Jacks were used in the pits to quickly raise the car. I don't have any real history on their use, but here are links to a couple of photos:

There's also a thread at http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/era-...ick-jacks.html which, in simple terms, advises against actually using them for lifting. It certainly seems most quick jacks these days are more decorative than functional.

Thank you very much.

Don't try to mimic the original jack carts and use them. They usually caused some body damage in the day and aren't strong enough on most replicas to support the car.

Well worth repeating...

Enjoy it!

If they look like you could use them for tie down they're probably upside down.

GT Trooper I don't seem to be tech savvy enough to get a picture on this site.

Can't see it but thanks for trying. Backdrafts are sweet!

Actually most seem to be on back to front.:o I tend to think that the original design probably had the curved edge pointing toward the car with the flat surface facing out. They were probably curved to follow the body's contour thereby moving the lifting point under the load thereby decreasing the leverage and load on the mounting bolts. The problem of course is that the curve in the quick jacks doesn't tend to match many car contours.

There are a couple of ways that still work to get a picture into a post. Upload the pictures to your Gallery and then copy the URL from there and put it in the post with the IMG tags. The other way is to upload your pictures to a hosting site such as PhotoBucket or one of the others which is free and then link them from there. PhotoBucket will automatically put the IMG tags on when you copy the URL.
