Need some Daytona Coupe experts
 

I own 3 Shelby Daytona Coupes in 1:18 scale die cast, one is red/white marked 59, the next is blue/white marked 15, & the last is also blue/white marked 98. The list of the six real CSX cobras are as follows:
1. CSX2286 2. CSX2287 the original 3. CSX2299 4. CSX2300 5. CSX2601 6. CSX2602
The real CSX2601 blue/white was marked 26, my question is are the 3 that I own marked as the real ones were & if so which CSX number goes with mine that are marked with #59-#15-, & #98. My second question can I purchase 1:18 scale numbered rondels & where, that I could place over my number 15 & make it number 26. I’m not out to fool anyone that my 15 was originally numbered 26, but I have a friend who built a replica Daytona Coupe which he numbered after the real #26 coupe that sold for $7,250,000 at auction. I would like to give him my 1:18 scale Daytona Coupe but I need it to be marked as his replica with a number 26. I know they made a #26 die cast coupe way back when, but it is now hard to find & out of my price range, especially if I only have to purchase 3 rondels marked with#26.

Since I never got any answers to my query I went to my copy of World Registry of Cobras & GT 40s. Since the numbers changed almost with every race I was mainly interested in the number applied during a more remembered race. The picture that accompanies CSX2286 is #9 in the World Registry. CSX2287 the original cobra coupe was #14 in their picture. CSX2299 was #15, & CSX2300 was #98. CSX2601 has a picture with no number as does CSX2602. CSX2601 is most known with #26 as depicted by my friend’s replica of his full scale replica. CSX2602 is normally shown with #14 as this was this coupes debut at the race track. My 1:18 scale red cobra with #59 is not one of the 6 original Daytona Coupes.

I guess my only question left is where I can get 1:18 scale decals of a rondel marked with #26 as I need three. I’m almost not ready to make my #15 CSX2299 or my #98 CSX2300 turn into #26 CSX2601 #26.

Actually it was, it was raced by Scuderia Filipinetti.

I know it's not the exact info you're looking for, but since we're mentioning coupes and numbers...
2602 currently has a '16'. That may change soon. ;)

Each time the coupes were in a race they changed there numbers but the reason I put #14 on CSX2602, that was the number of it's debut run. CSX2602 had many numbers associated with it but #26 has been the number if you are building a replica that stuck, maybe because that's the number on the coupe when it sold for $7,250,000. I saw a 1:18 scale CSX2601 marked with a #26 for $360.00 for sale but at that price my buddy will have to buy his own. :LOL:

This won't help you much but I have the collection of the original 5 die cast Coupes that Exoto put out years ago and then they sent me a stainless steel polished one as I had collected all 6 of the originals. I believe it took about 3/4 months for each of them as they were made when ordered. I looked in their book and also called them to ask about the rondels and they said they didn't know where you could find them for a 1/18th scale car.

And you are right about the price of the cars. If yo have the set from Exoto which Shelby signed off on, any of them are now worth $400 and up. I have been offered $700 for the stainless steel one.

Could you go to a model store and find the stuff to make your own rondels and them have the 26 painted on them?

I have one other 1:18 scale Daytona coupe made in China for Shelby Collectibles painted red/white also #98 in its own plastic housing instead of a cardboard box. Which I guess means if I were to change the numbers to #26 it would have to be done on the blue/white #98 but after I go through all this trouble I would not want to part with a blue/white Daytona marked with a #26. Maybe I can find a smaller scale Daytona blue/white made in China marked with#26 for a much cheaper price & my buddy will have to settle for that. :LOL:
I also have a 1:18 scale Racing Legends made in 1997 by Exoto blue/white coupe in its own Plastic housing mounted on a wood platform. I have the 1:18 2001 Racing Legends Exoto Cobra Roadster that looks like a polished Kirkham or a chromed roadster, also in its own Plastic housing mounted on a wood platform.
I guess my easiest way would be to go to an Art or Hobby type store that has decals & letters & the alphabet in any size needed & can be transferred from its backing to another surface. It would be easy to hand paint out the black #98 & after the surface was all white & dry to apply & transfer the number 26 to the rondel. Now that we have solved my problem I think my buddy will have to live with the article I did on his coupe that appeared in Cruzin’ Style Magazine in the November 2013 issue, as this is getting far to frustrating.

That is an expensive gift.
