Big guys Cobras?
HI all!,
I am looking for a "big guys" cobra...I know classic roadsters makes one and I think, excalibur. Any others? What is general pricing for a decent one? Thanks! Ron:D |
What do you mean by "Big Guy" Cobra? Do you want to buy a Cobra that fits, or are you open to building? A Cobra doesn't necessarily need to be stretched to accommodate someone large and/or tall. I had a guy who was 6'11" sit in mine and he could close the door and work the pedals. I'm 6'6", wear a size 16 shoe and weigh 300+ lbs and I fit like a glove. Now, I understand trying to fit in a Backdraft, Shelby, Superformance, etc. may be impossible but I built my Factory Five and was able to do a few minor mods to make it fit just fine.

I too adjusted my build to fit myself (6', 240lbs). If you choose to build one, as CNGreen points out with a few simple mods, an FFR can be built to fit large size guys. When I finshed, my Cobra was just as comfortable as my DD.
My "Big Guy" mods; I adjusted my Wilwood pedals to sit further away, moved my steering wheel up and further away, raked my seat @ 15 degrees and cut my door for more elbow and hand room. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...5-16-10021.jpg The original "Wyman Door Mod" Take a look at my build log below if you want to see more. I am 6'2" and 200+ and have to move my seat up in my ERA!

I'm 6' 2", weight 275 lbs. Have a Shelby 4000 series car. To make life easy er Have a dropped foot box and a quick disconnect steering wheel. Driver seat is aluminum with min. padding so I look thru windshield, not over it. Driving shoes have a narrower sole than reg shoes which helps with size 13 feet.

The Lone Star is longer wheel base.
http://www.ultimateclassiccars.com/ But as others have said, I'm 6'5 and did all the normal "tall guy" mods to my FFR. Fit just fine. Good luck! |
The interior of a Lone Star is 4" longer.
Most of the long wheel base Cobras did not put the extra inches into the interior. Lone Star did. The doors are 4" longer. I have a lot of room behind my seat because I'm 5' 10" and mounted the adjustable seat to suit me. I talked to Brian at Ultimate Classic yesterday about a lot of changes the new owners have made to the body. Great news. My Lone Star was manufactured in the late 90's. And over the years have changed things on my Cobra. I was surprised to hear you can buy a LS with those changes. If you are going to build a Cobra I would check Ultimate Classic. Go visit and sit in one. That being said, we have some big guys in FFRs and Uniques in our area. Thanks guys!!! Is lonestar made my Unique??
I am looking at a classic roadster design for what I think is a decent price for a solid replica. Odd that cobras really dont come with power steering..?.. Thanks for all the info! Ron:3DSMILE: |
Unique is located in Gadsden Ala
Lone Star (now Ultimate Classic) is located north of Dallas / Ft Worth Tx. Dwight |
I have to agree with Dwight, I have one of ultimates new bodied cars and the changes that they made from their previous body is impressive, they added additional room in the foot box area. They also made additional changes to the bodylines and looks of the car, in my opinion the body shape is one of the best.
