Kirkham's brake lights not working
A fellow driver pointed out to me today that my brake lights weren't working.
I got home and noted that they only work with heavy pressure on the brake pedal…much more than I need to stop, so they haven't been working for most of my daily driving :eek: I assume it's the pressure switch doing this? Is the switch plumbed into only the front or rear system such that the brake bias may be off, thus not activating the switch or does the switch trigger from total system pressure? Is the pressure the switch triggers at adjustable? Even though I built and installed my engine, I'm remarkably naive about the braking system lol. Any help would be appreciated. phil |

Good question on the brake bias. The switch is of course in the rear circuit on one side (forgot which) of the diff area. I too have a weak pressure switch, since day one, probably. I think it's an old VW part. Not looking forward to making the switch but it's in my (our) best interest. There are upgrades that take less pressure but the threads are different. :CRY: Let's see what help we can get... |
The switch is in the L/rear between the wheel and the center section. Just screws into a "T" fitting.

The new one I installed a few years back came from England, and I believe it is trouble free. No observations from other drivers. I bought it from Kirkham Maurice |
You can get switches that work on a lower pressure setting, maybe if you have more front bias you can try that.
