Here's CSX2299 at Carrozzeria Gransport in Modena
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../CSX2299_2.jpg This is one of Mike Shoen's photos from "The Cobra Ferrari Wars". Mike is happy for me to post this and some others of his as well. If you like Cobra books and don't have Mike's great book, you should get it (Cobra Ferrari Wars - The Second Edition of the book). I never cease to be amazed at how nice, and how accessible, some of these guys are, guys who were there when 'it' was all happening. Another one, same place, same time.... http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/CSX2299.jpg Cheers, Glen |
More period pics...
Here's Bob Bondurant. I know it's 1964, but don't know which race. http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...pspi1jldc4.jpg Same driver, different car, different year. It's 1965 and the race is LM http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...psdhyksgfe.jpg Bob again. This time Daytona 1965, sharing with Ginther... http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...pscqyktqc1.jpg Quality is not great, but here's Bob again at the Nurburgring in 1964 in 289FIA CSX2345 (one of his few dnf's) http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...psinuny0kj.jpg and http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...psfatsxsxg.jpg Cheers, Glen Please add more if you have any :) |
Nice pics Glen! Yes, Mike Shoen is a great guy! I was talking to him at Bondurants birthday get together and I'm sure he was tired of my stupid questions but he never let on that he was! A class act!

Here are more pictures of the 1964 Targa Florio in Sicily Here's Phil Hill with FIA Cobra CSX2345... http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...l_Hill_142.jpg ....and Phil again, ready to go. Looks like Dan behind in CSX2323? http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Hill_142_3.jpg ....and they're still waiting.... http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Hill_142_2.jpg Now it's Dan Gurney's (and CSX2323's) turn to feature: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Gurney_146.jpg This is post-race, on the boat from Messina back to Reggio Calabria. Cobra #150 is CSX2301 http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...after_race.jpg Thanks to Mike Shoen for these pics from "The Cobra Ferrari Wars" Mike's words "You may use the TF photos on clubcobra if you do give the website credit -- helps sell the books. Best wishes. Michael Shoen" Website is Cobra Ferrari Wars - The Second Edition of the book ....so if you want to read the stories that go with these pictures, it's a great book (and no I don't get a cut). Thanks Mike. Cheers, Glen |
Forgot this one. It's Cobra #148, CSX2260, driven my Innes Ireland and Masten Gregory. That's probably MG driving as he's wearing glasses.

I have to add this one as 2142 is one of the originals I'm obsessed with.
1963 Le Mans 24hrs. Hardtop Cobra CSX2142. Hugus/Jopp drivers. http://lemans.slot-racing.fr/le-mans...-4-LM63-10.jpg |
....and here it is at Snetterton:
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Snetterton.jpg Thanks Larry. Any other interesting pics, please add (nice quality in yours, BTW) Cheers, Glen |
That's an interesting photo! Note the stripes on the nose vs the rest of the car. Don't know why that was that way but I bet there's a story behind it.

"Mountain Legend" is one of my favorites (features a number of works Healeys) and really gives the flavor of running the Targa during the golden years of sports racing. This 1965 film shows the GT-40 roadster. It's incredibly evocative and well worth the watch.
|
The last photo of 2142 with the stripe change may be because of the nationality of the team racing it? When Hugus entered the 1963 LeMans race it was under an American team (white w/blue stripes).
|
I suppose it could be John, but it's only the nose that's different. I wondered if it had something to do with Willment as that's their stripe scheme but I really don't know. Willment ended up with CS2131 later.

Digressing (only slightly), here is the Willment team Galaxie, which ran in white with red stripes: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...hr_Kyalami.jpg That's actually Jack Sears driving it in Kyalami (SA) in the 9hr race. Bob Olthoff had it there for several seasons, and then it came back to England and Jack Sears has owned it for many years sine (although last report was in 2008, so not sure if he still has it) More digression....the Willment strip scheme also was used in reverse, although I don't think it was as common. Here's a more recent shot of the Willment Galaxie: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Galaxie_SA.jpg Willment'a also raced Cortinas, so here's the white with red again: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...nt_Cortina.jpg And more digression.... here's the Willment coupe at an M1 service station parking area after its notorious 180mph run on the M1: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._M1_180mph.jpg No Willment stripe scheme, but we all know it's a Willment car :D edit: oops, no it isn't Cheers, Glen |
You're close Glen but that's the AC Cars Coupe, A98. The Willment Coupe actually does have stripes. No eyebrows though!;)
