Great pics Jac Mac. Any idea of the years these pics were taken. I'm guessing early to mid 1990's.

How can we help you with the other pics?

You could e-mail them to me and I could post them for you.

I'll PM you with my e-mail address.

Cheers
Greg

In this pic that I had posted I can identify some of the people:

Shelby on the right

Lew Spencer to Shelby's right

Maybe Joan Sherman (with her back to camera) Shelby's secretary, girl friend, later wife

The other three don't know.

Neat cars. Possibly Bird Cage Maserati hiding in the garage behind the Cadillac

Cheers
Greg.

....and where are they?

Shelby is wearing a collar and tie, which is unusual unless he's in England.

It's raining, so that suggests England, not California.

Looks like a Jag XK150 at the side, and maybe a Morgan in the background. Did many Morgans make it stateside?

BUT....there's what looks like a Cadillac (1950-ish?) in the shed....and that makes the English location unlikely %/

Just chewing the fat....

someone is wearing sunglasses even after the rain (!), she is wearing colorful beach shorts
that suggest California ;)

Check out the license plate on the caddy. Aren't the British plates long and narrow?
Blas

I thinks that's Lew Spencer to Shelby's right who I believe had a British Sports Car dealership at the time.

Shelby and he partnered in High Performance Motors, the showroom/dealership in El Segundo selling Cobras in the mid '60s.

Actually, the Jag is an XK140 Coupe (had one right after High School in California- paid $750 for it in 1971).

xb-60 05-07-2019 06:13 PM

Oh, yes. You're definitely correct :o

I thought it is an American plate as well.

Gary

xb-60 05-08-2019 02:42 AM

Agreed. American plate.

Any more guesses on the white car and red car the other side of the Cadillac?

t walgamuth 05-08-2019 03:45 AM

The hood scoop on the red car looks Ferrari like. The car against the wall on the left side looks Morgan-ish.

my427cobra 05-08-2019 09:37 AM

I'm pretty sure the location is Lew Spenser's British Car service/dealership in 1961 in LA California.

Lew Spencer (standing to Shelby's right) was the Morgan West Coast distributor/dealer in the early 60's, a friend and fellow racer of Shelby's.

He raced a blue '61 Morgan called the Baby Doll Special.

That Morgan in the background was probably a '61.

If the woman is Joan Sherman, the time period would be late 1961 or early 1962, perhaps just months or weeks before the Feb '62 first Cobra build at Dean Moon's shop.

Now the cars in the corner of the garage hiding behind the Cadillac.

Keep in mind Shelby had bee a race driver for Lucky Casner's Team Camoradi racing team driving Type 60 and Type 61 Birdcage Maseratis in 1960 and 1961. Cars were raced predominenily in white but also in red.

After winning the 1961 National Championship, Shelby, uum, "stored" the cars somewhere because he wanted them. They were later "unstored" by Maserati.

We're seeing two cars in the corner behind the Caddy. See pic

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._in_corner.jpg

The tail of a white car which could be the back end of a type 60 Birdcage and a the front end of a red car (high pontoon fenders ) which could be a type 61, both of which Shelby raced.

My best guesses.

Just a thought, I wonder if the red car in the corner may be a Allard J2X ? The reason I say that is my Uncle Dick was a racer and friend of Lew, and worked on his car there once in while between races. To me it look's like the hood with the port holes of a Allard and how high that car sits, compared to the Maser next to it.

t walgamuth 05-08-2019 11:03 AM

Allard had scoops like that too I believe, though not enough detail for me and I can't get the computer to let me look closer at it without it sliding off the screen!

I bet that caddy has a hitch on it and was used to pull cobras to the track. Probably just shipped over with the team cars.

I found a photo online of Lew Spencer and Eric Dahlquist in front of Carroll Shelby’s & Lew Spencer - High Performance Motors with Dragonsnake CSX2356 (dated October 1964) and could not help noticing the siding on the buildings looked the same. And if you look in the windows I see a similar garage door configuration at the back of the building too. Perhaps someone can post it here. Is on the “just a car guy” website.

The guy in the blue shirt with his hands in his pockets is John Edgar. Which would explain the red Ferrari in the background with an "8" on it.
(Carroll Shelby)

And the guy in all white with his back to us, has the same stance as Superman from the rear. (part of his red cape is sticking out in his back pocket) Clark Kent maybe?

Alfa02 05-08-2019 12:06 PM

Here's a photo's of the J2X. Maybe just maybe that Cad could be there as engine parts for the Allard ;) Uncle Dick's Allard had a Caddie motor :) https://picolio.auto123.com/art-imag...X-MkII-i01.jpg

Alfa02 05-08-2019 12:18 PM

John Edgar (Editor of Road & Track in the 50's-60's) Correct ? I knew he looked familiar. Thank you Blas. Ok I just remembered who John Edgar was, when you said a Ferrari, so your saying it's a Ferrari in the corner? Not Allard? Cheers Tom.

Blas 05-08-2019 01:06 PM

I'm thinking a Ferrari because of color (Red), what appears to be the #_8 on the car, and Edgar in the photo who ran that number on a red Ferrari.
As per the white Maserati being a Tipo 60 or 61, I look at the side exhaust (or lack of it), the door outline and what could be the black outline of welting between a fender and the body of the car which the Tipo 60 and 61 did not have to my knowledge. (All one piece body/fender sections) All purely speculation on my part with out a better photo.... but definitely Superman dressed in white. Woman perhaps Louis Lane? And hole in wall in backgrounf where Superman entered.....
Also, Lew's racing Morgan had wire wheels and no front bumpers in all the photos I find....
What year is the caddy? 1950’s something I think.
Blas

Great contributions guys. Much better than my guesses.

Cheers
