Gas Leak EEEEEK!
So I noticed a little oily residue pooled on the intake manifold and it was the second time I found it after a brief ride. I was tired of it making a mess so I decided to run the engine and heat it up in the garage and find the source of my leak.
I had only run it a minute or two and hit it with the flashlight to look around. I about crapped when I saw gas running out from underneath the front bowl of my speed demon carberator and pooling up in the pockets of the intake manifold! All that was needed was a little more leak or an errant spark from somewhere and poof instant inferno. A little rebuild kit and should have it installed tonight. |
Was it from one of the lower bowl-mounting screws? The washer gasket rings can be purchased separately without buying a complete kit. On my Holley I found that there is a ridge in the seat on the fuel bowl that imprints on the plastic washer surface. If the washer is reversed on the bolt when replacing it - it can seep fuel between the bolt head and the washer. I actually sanded mine flat again and they were fine to re-use but I bought some spare washer gaskets to keep on hand.

It was only $28 for a complete kit so I bought it. Cheap insurance lol.
