Can ANYONE identify this Cobra mfgr?
I took my new cobra to the gathering at Monterey last weekend. Every cobra owner I met said it was high quality but nobody was able to identify who made it. Most of them suggested I post the question to the experts online.
Its a registered 67, has a 351 Windsor, fiberglass body, first sold in 2000. The pictures can be reviewed at my photo bucket link below. Very much appreciated. New Cobra Photos by prmcrken | Photobucket |
Approved the post/links...keep posting.

What is the frame made of (round or rectangular members) and what type of suspension is on it? It does appear to be of good quality from what can be seen in the pictures.
|
The lower frame is rectangular while the upper support is tubular. Not sure if it is 3 or 4 ". Coil overs for shocks.

I searched but could not find a way to combine 2 threads. Is it possible?
|
It looks like a Johnex to me.

Rick and Ken, can you tell me what you are seeing to substantiate? Some have said it looks like a Butler, but I could not find the Butler serial number.
|
100% it is a Johnex:
- top mounted Tilden braking clutch - doors and door panels - door hinges - Chevy front brake calipers - racing front roll bar - a 2inch flange behind side pipes to mount body to frame - trunk lid is the same as mine - hood hinges - underside of hood - the rad support - four round tail lights and overall body shape If the car is in California, Johnex sold quite a few cars to House of Cobras in the mid to late '90s. I hope this is sufficient information for you. Rick |
Great info Rick. Thank you. Do you have ID numbers and if so, where are they located?
My vin begins RBT (which I am told is a Canadian rebuilt) and I have a frame stamp that is 7C55Fxxxxxx. |
Johnex is long gone, has been bankrupt for the past 15yrs now.
Sorry I can't help you on the VIN number, don't know where that number is from. Best thing is to Google and do some research, good luck on your adventure. I do have some sales brochures from the Johnex cars from the '80s. |
Rick can you tell me the location of your cars frame number and vin number?
|
Sent you a P.M.
