CSX 3170 at SCCA Nationlas

Scott won the Tuesday event by 3.3 seconds so things are going well. I was
waaay behind but hope to do better today. As Clint Eastwood once said a man has to know his limitations, mine are driving abilities.

This is a video of Scott's last run

Congratulations to Scott on the win. The car looked as if it was handling really well. Thanks for posting the video.

When I tried autocross a few times several years ago, I found it very challenging, but nothing like what this video showed. The speed of your car requires both precision and extraordinary quickness by the driver. I was amazed by how quickly things happened.

Congratulations to you and Scott - amazing car and amazing driver!

Update on Wednesday

We broke a grade 8 Aircraft Spruce steering arm bolt on Scott's second run so he never finished the run but I am sure it was 1 to 2 seconds faster looking at the data it broke about 200 feet from the finish so he slowed immediately and coasted through with a time that would have won anyway. Scott was fastest of all CAM cars and won overall. I was about 2 seconds back so things were better for me today. I am going to have to investigate upsizing the loaded bolt because this happened once before.

Do you have to use a full windshield as opposed to none...

You're kidding right?

You got me, and most others covered by the proverbial country mile. :o

gotta love this.

I tried a couple of airfield type auto-crosses many years ago and just could not get a grip on the course layouts. The cones just blended together. (Or collected themselves under my car)

For no practice solo type stuff I only did well at hill climbs.

Otherwise I had to stick to circuit racing where I had enough visual indicators to figure out the way around...

What tires are you running?

Update and other information:

We run a stock windshield because there is a 150 pound penalty for plastic windscreens.

Tires: Front Bridgestone RE 71 275x35x18
Rear BFG Rival -S 335x30x18
Both 200 TW street tires

We were on our way home and thought it would be fun to drop in on the Goodguys Colorado Nationals since it was only 1 hour off interstate 80 and they were running Friday. We went to a friend of Scott's house and pulled the caliper and rotor then repaired the failed steering arm bolt. We added fuel, changed mufflers and reflashed the computer for 5000 feet all on Thursday night. Friday morning Scott laid down a time that was 1.2 seconds faster than the second place car on a 38 second course. About noon the course got hot and was loosing grip so we left for home because Scott had to be at work in San Jose Monday. The best time to run at Goodguys is usually mid morning on the second or third day with lots of rubber down. We could not go for the win because you have to be in attendance on Sunday to win. We did chaeck with friends and as of Saturday night we still had fast time. This has been a very good month for us and the car. We plan on some fine tuning of springs and shocks at the test course on the 26th and 27th because higher speed steady state is not quite up to the rest of our handling. The next big event is the Scottsdale Shootout November 20 -22.

I lived near the Good Guys Colorado site (The Budweiser Center/county fair grounds) and went there every year until we moved. I missed my registration last year and they actually called me to see if I was coming (I got one of the Sunday open awards with the GT for 2 or 3 years in a row) but the car swas already in Vegas even though we were still splitting time. I love their show and the whole premise. It's one of the best shows in the US.

Plus, their auto cross gets a big draw! I wonder how many people there knew what was running!!!! Not many.

Congrats. Takes a lot of effort, dedication and skill to accomplish.
