Sounds like you were using one of the Powertrax lockers - either the Lock Right or the No-Slip. I had a No-Slip in my 9" rear end and found it a bit too 'clunky' for my tastes - at least for the street. I think it would be perfect for drag strip use or installed in a 4x4 for off road use.
The Grip-Pro, OTOH, is pretty much seamless operation - it acts like an open differential during normal cruise and quietly locks up and does its thing when it needs to. Highly recommended for a street or autocross car.
