Static cling meatballs and vintage decals

I just received an order of static cling meatballs and vintage decals for my Cobra. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with these at high speed. I'll get up to 140mph on the track and am curious if I will still have them when I'm done. The salesman said they would hold at "high speed", but when I mentioned 140mph, the admitted that he didn't know if they would hold at that speed. He said to install them wet, then squeegee the excess water out and let them dry for a day or two. I'd like to know at what speed these things have been from people who race with them. If they won't go 140mph, at what speed do they start to come off?

I used them on my car at numerous track events several years ago. Keep them clean so they can be smoothed down well and you should be OK. I had my car up to 140 many times and never lost one form the hood, trunk or doors.

Tech Explanation: At 140 MPH the air two feet from your car is moving at about 140 MPH relative to your car. The air 0.001 inch from your car is barely moving at all relative to your car. The area where the speed of the air increases dramatically from zero to 140 is called the boundary layer. The decals are thin enough to be in the part of the boundary layer where the air speed is much slower than it is a few feet away.

Where purchased

Where did you buy your meatballs? I am considering but am uncertain on locating so they do not cross seams or hood.

Tommy, thanks for the explanation. I'm also wondering about the repeatability of the application. I want to remove them after road racing because this car is a daily driver and is also used for drag racing. I bought them from Finish Line Accessories.

I have the meatballs and other decals on my car and have reached 150 mph and they stayed put very nicely. I found that instead of using water to put them on with, that Windex works great. Clean the area first, then spray with plenty of windex. Put the decal where you want it and use a small squeegee to push out any liquid and smooth the decal. I gave mine an overnight to sit and they stuck on with no problem. I have removed them and put them back on the paper backing sheet they came on then reapplied the same way, no problem. Have some fun with them and enjoy. If one comes off at high speed you'll just have a great story. Hope this helps.

Why not just get permanent stick, they look good on the car why take them off...

I also had my static cling decals on and off many times. No problem as long as they are kept clean, and don't crease them during storage.

An old whiteboard in the garage is a good place to store them when off the car.

Meat balls and stickers are on

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...=14336&thumb=1 Wife and I put all the decals on in about a half hour. After an uncertain start, it went real fast, especially the smaller ones. I used 1/2 cap of detergent in about 16 oz. of distilled water in a sprayer bottle. I washed and dried the area on the car where I was going to put the decals. We then sprayed one sticker and applied and positioned it. I used a 5" rubber squeegee to get the water out and smooth the decal. I wiped excess water from around the decals with a soft rag. After an overnight dry, I tested the adhesion with a 100 mph trip down I-95. None of the decals came off. Everyone who has seen the car says they love the new look. I think it looks great, too. Interesting side note, the next day after the test drive, I removed the windshield to tend to a minor problem, and the car looked unreal, just smokin. I usually have a car or two challenge me when I go for a ride. With these, I had NO challengers at all. Nobody seemed to want to tangle with me. The car just looks like a full blown racing machine that somehow wandered away from the race track.
