The Shelby GR-1 was a car I wanted to very much build. I could never get to the right person at Ford to get a license to build the car. The car is stunning in person, even better than the photos.
The doors on the Shelby GR-1 are known as butterfly doors. The Porsche 917, and McLaren M6GT had butterfly doors. In the 917 and M6GT, the pivots are just two rod ends. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_doors

Please don't give up,Tom - a polished (Polish? ;) ) Kirkham GR1 would be a thing of beauty indeed!
Edit: Sell it as the Kirkham Mongoose (an ode to its fraternal grandfather, the Detomaso Mangusta) and supply body/chassis to Shelby to be sold as the Shelby GR1. I bet there's a lot of people who'd love to see this happen!

Mr. Kirkham,
Please continue to work on licensing. You have to build that car. Put me down for #1. We all know if you build it it will be full of original billet parts. I bet the butterfly door hinges will be a work of art. A no nonsense vintage aircraft style cockpit would be a nice fit vs the interior in the show car Ford built.
