My car's history

Hi

Before buying my car, I did my best to get information about the background of my car but i was not successful. The car is longer than standard cobra for s taller driver. The vin plate is printed in a frame where it says it's manufactured by Ford. The car shows a lot of similarities with cars produced by Excalibur during 80's and it has an originally fitted air conditioning similar to Excaliburs. I checked with Excalibur and they confirmed that my VIN number is not in the list of cars they produced.

Vin number: 66CCW0015201
Engine number: D2AE-6015-BA-13

Finally I need to order a piston and few more parts for repairing my engine. I'm finding it extremely difficult to order the right parts. It's a 351w as per engine casting number but it's so hard to find even a matching piston ! Or maybe, it's me and my lack of experience !

Would appreciate your tips in either finding the right parts or any info about the history of my car.

I can't help a lot but my book shows that engine code, D2AE as coming from a 1972 Galaxie. The rest of the numbers I can't find in the book that I have but I am sure that some of the people on here can find it in theirs.
Also make sure that the engine wasn't stroked or bored as that may be part of your trouble with finding parts if you are looking at stock parts.

The chassis tag on this car may indicate it was made by Ford but what someone screws onto their car does not prove Ford made it. In short, they didn't.

To the OP: It's all about the details you provide when asking for assistance. In this case, you are going to need to provide the old piston(s) to a competent automotive shop to determine exactly what replacement you are going to need.

As for who produced the car,

Classics Roadsters or Excalibur, as those are the only two manufacturers who used that center latch combination for their hoods.

However, my vote (the VIN is no help as it was made up at time of title process) is that it is an Excalibur

Look at the reverse lights, rear bulkhead behind the seats, shape of the body, dash, seats, trunk latches, fuel filler location, rear lighting setup, and a few others "tells" ;)
