Replacing the clutch master on a superformance
 
guys,

I had a new keith craft 427 installed last week and my mechanic replaced the clutch, clutch master and slave. I had to retrofit a heim joint to the clutch fork arm on a welded 1/4 inch tab instead of the dimple in the arm socket. Now i am experiencing a leak from the master. Since the plunger, which is inside the foot box on the inside is dry and and all my leaking is directly underneath the clutch master cylinder piston, i am going to try removing the fittings and covering the thread in teflon tape and firmly tightening that fitting, as this is where i believe the leak is coming from. If it were a bad MC piston and ring, i'd be leaking inside the car right?

In addition to that question (the where is the leak coming from, and i'm assuming it's at the line fitting) i am also curious how people gain access into the exterior of the footbox, it's literally buried under the fender and behind the brake master cylinder. How the hell do you gain access in there? I was thinking i might build a scaffold over the hood and try accessing from the top. I am not a ROmanian contortionist so I am curious how people do this??

There is a removable panel in the drivers side fender well that can be removed to access the master cylinder.

Trace the leak with your fingers. Most come from the fluid well or the slave itself.

thank you, that seems rather obvious now, wow, you just saved me from creating a saw mill in my garage. I replaced the slave because the boot was soaked. It turned out i was leaking from the line fitting to the slave. now that the puddle on the floor moved from the bell housing slave area to the fender, I know it's in the master. But again, because the boot on the MC is bone dry, i don't think it's a piston/plunger/seal issue, it's just a fitting issue. Thanks so much for this info.
