Tire shake - problem found

Like many people, I've had tire shake with my Goodyear BBs. It shakes at about 30mph, and mostly goes away after 10-15 minutes of driving. But it has also had a shake problem at other speeds - 65mph, etc.

I recently felt something I didn't like on the front left, so I started looking for play. It felt like the wheel wasn't mounted properly or perhaps the wheel bearing had issues.

I took the wheel off, and then the dust cap. When I removed the cotter pin, the axle nut would spin freely. It was at least a half revolution loose. I tightened it properly, and reinstalled everything. I am amazed at how smooth it is now.

I still have a small amount of shake when the car has sat for 5-6 days, but it goes away.

It isn't just massages that have happy endings.

Park your car on flat-spot stoppers and your flat spots will virtually disappear.

Good idea for parking for a long time. I don't normally let it sit for more than a couple of weeks, though.
