Door Latches: CR car.
I hope I'm doing this correctly, I'm new so please let me know "nicely". I have a CR that has a few piece's missing in action. They are in MI. in my seller's boxes (I brought the Cobra here in WA. and he had shipped some of the boxes before he sold it to me), and I may never see them, so I'm looking out to the club if anyone has extra piece's. As most of you know CR cars have elect. solenoid's and I've decided to go with just chrome latches, and strikers and everyone seem out of stock (Finishline, Shell Valley, etc) does anyone have a extra pair they would sell me or lend till the back ordered ones come in, the cars going to the paint shop in a couple week's, so it's important that I get the doors aligned. The 2-other piece's are the transmission tunnel cover, and two head light trim ring's which are a little wider on the CR cars I think 8 3/8 or 8 5/8". The rest of the piece's aren't as important as these 3. Thank you for your time, and here's hoping. Tom.

Alfa,
Rob Gray here, the guy rebuilding the CR1 after 26 years. Go to this company's site....Neat Lever Latch Release Kit. I believe they have the original door latches that CR1's used. They also have some far nicer door handles (rather than the crappy Shimano bicycle handles and cables). They also have full solenoid systems if you want to go that way. I'm personally going mechanical releases. I'll keep the cable system, install the billet handles near the front of the seats on the rocker sill, BUT I'm also going to install billet handles with a Rod attached directly to the latch and install the handles just behind the top of the seat on the inside of the quarter panel just above the latch. This will allow you to open the door from the outside while standing without having to reach down between the seat and the rocker sill. The original placement is great if you're actually in the car trying to open the door, it just sucks if your outside the car trying to get in. If you review the CR2 forum site, you can see some others that have done this, it's fairly simple and makes for a far superior latch release system. I'm not a big fan of all the modern electrical stuff on our CRs, kind of out of place and also items that can fail when you need them the most. Good old mechanical releases are bullet proof and far less headaches to install properly. Also, I don't review many of the other forums, just happened to catch your post. In the future, if you post on the Classic Roadsters II forum, many of us will catch your post and provide feedback where possible. |
Alfa,
RBgray is right. Posting in the CRII forum will get you the attention of the CRII owners more directly. Regarding door latches mine are located behind the seat back on the quarter panel. I am ok with it but I do have to explain to my quest riders how to open the door. Pictures in my gallery. Click on the little camera icon in the upper right hand corner to access. John |
Thank's rbgray1, and MaSnaka, I will go to our forum next time, after talking to my fab. guy he think's the manual latches look's and work's far better for my car at this time, and I like the idea of manual latches. Now to find a pair. What do you think the chances are of posting in our want ad's? My transmission cover is the piece I'm really looking for, hate to have a piece made in alum. or ? I have a little time to deal with those, the paint shop next on the list, Thank's again guy's, Tom.
