Another 2,500 miles
I just did another 2,500 miles in the Cobra. Actually, it was the week before Thanksgiving. I'm just getting around to posting.
The trip was from Miami to the Little Rock, AR area and back. I recently switched from a top loader to a TKO, and I love it. It shifts smooth as butter (shift kit by Brent Lykins). I was hesitant to swap out the top loader, but I'm glad I did. Very happy. I do not have a top that fits properly, so I did this in the elements. 50 miles was in the rain. Half of the trip was very cold. I have a heater, but it doesn't do a lot without a top. I'm not a wimp, but I'm not doing that again. I put the car on a 1,000 ft drag strip. I only made 2 runs until the starter fell apart. As near as I could tell, the pinion gear slid into the ring gear under heavy acceleration, and it fragged. Fortunately, I could find and install a stock Ford starter, so i didn't have to push start the car all the way home. Neither run was good. The engine ran great, but on the first run my foot slipped off the pedal and on the second run, the clutch smoked at half track, so I let up. The starter let go just before the second run, so I packed up and headed to the house. I might get a go-pro before the next road trip. It might be fun to video and youtube it. |
Man - you're tough. What track did you go to - Centerville or Prescott?

Awesome - good for you for using that Cobra!

Tough or stupid
It was cold north of Florida, but it was a fantastic trip. I'm going to try to do at least one long Cobra drive each year of 2,000 miles or more - at least until I'm too old and crusty to enjoy it.
We raced at Centerville. It's a nice track. I like it a lot. Great people. I lost. My brother's 2003 Mustang Cobra is very quick. One of these years I'll catch him. |
