I'm not saying that these are not cool, just trying to learn more of what they are about considering that the intended use was for racing and not the street.

They debuted three of the four cars Thursday night at Barrett Jackson. Weather had been threatening all day with periods of wind and rain. But just before 6pm, a window of weather opportunity made itself available and the crew from Hillbank reshuffled their display cars to get the three Sebring Limited Edition cars out of the trailer and under the awning for all to see.
After a year plus of work, having seen many photos along the way, having access to the high resolution photos early on, and having inspected the cars in the trailer, I was still overwhelmed with each car as it left the trailer.
Parked side-by-side and surrounded by the their creators, Jimmy Price, Lance Stander and Ross Henry along with Gary Patterson and a contingent from Shelby American in attendance, along with Allen Grant with his son Jeff, and Rich MacDonald (son of Dave MacDonald) and to my surprise, Aaron Shelby, the cars attracted a huge crowd even as the rains returned. Many photos were taken and the news media did an interview under the lights. A truly memorable occasion to have attended. This morning, the red CSX2002 Ken Miles Limited Edition Car was still outside, and the little bit of sun we had today really made the color "pop". Well done!

Yeah, I saw you Blas in the background of a couple photos....

The "Shelby" versions are sold out, all have been spoken for. But we will be offering the same packages in the Superformance line as rollers so you will be able to build them out as either a race car (SVRA legal with our "Vintage prep" kit) or a streetable car with your choice of powertrain. I would postulate that the Shelby versions will mostly be held by collectors and not be seen much. The powertrains offered by Shelby are not SVRA eligible (TKO 600, etc.) and the cars are labeled as "not street legal" being that they are only being sold as complete runners.

Many thanks

All fifteen of these "Sebring" Cobras were Shelby American Continuation Cobras? If so do they have their own vin number range within the CSX7XXX Series (small block Cobras) or do they have an entirely new vin number range like the Continuation Daytona Coups do CSX9XXX?

ALF 01-21-2017 12:41 PM

Thanks for the link to Superformance
I would like to see some detail pictures to understand the difference to the "normal" continuation Cobras.
Expecting things like: Weber 48IDA, Lucas DR3, Lucas SF4,Raydyot,....

1985 CCX 01-21-2017 12:48 PM

Might have CSX25xx numbers?

Blas 01-21-2017 04:18 PM

CSX27xx numbering.
Lucas lighting.
Electrics are modified 7000/8000 series cars type.

CompClassics 01-21-2017 04:20 PM

I don't think so, I believe McCluskey had an agreement with Shelby about using the remaining CSX2XXX numbers on his Daytona Coups. I just saw Blas post about the CSX27XX numbers!

1985 CCX 01-21-2017 05:09 PM

Yup, knew it was something like that.

Blas 01-21-2017 05:09 PM

Want me to change all the manuals?
CSX2702 - Gurney Car
CSX2703 - Grant Car
CSX2704 - MacDonald Car
CSX2714 - Miles Car
Fill in the the blanks

Mark IV 01-21-2017 05:16 PM

The Shelby "Sebring" cars are CSX27XX numbers.

Shelby (CS) had several "deals" with people regarding CSX numbers, he gave Lee at All Pro Cars some CSX numbers to be used on composite Daytona Coupes as well as some other allocations. I don't understand the value some people place on the number...is the car or the number the value? (and I am talking about new builds, not 60's cars like CSX 3326)

A good, old Cobra friend (who prefers to fly under the radar) restored CSX 2002 in the 1980s, including converting the steering from worm and sector to rack and pinion in a manner that would permit it to be easily reversed for originality. The finished car was gorgeous, as are the Shelby replicas.

No pics; you'll have to accept this on faith, but understand that I'm am extremely honest person.

I have seen pictures of 2002 and the conversion.

Ran across a couple photo's from Barrett Jackson I wanted to upload. Note the detail on the hood latches and comp center stay.

I saw all cars at BJ. Was told by an employee of HB all (15) Shelby made 289s were sold out immediately and one individual he pointed to had purchased (6) of them. Does not appear to be a fair method to purchase a car-just saying.

Correct.
However the same cars are available now in the Superformance line and come only as rollers so SVRA/HSR legal AND street legal when properly fitted. Not FIA compliant so Euro vintage is out but in North America they are welcome either on the track or on the street. Hey, if it floats your boat you can also collect them!

The first two Superformance SVRA compliant 289 FIA cars we have sold are being prepped for competition and the first is due to race at Sebring in March.

It's great to see that interest in Cobras continues to be very strong.
