@#$@! Bolts

Why is it that more difficult it is to get a spanner onto a bolt to undo it, the stickier it is to get out meaning that there is no chance to undo it with your fingers and that you have to use a spanner for each 1/8th turn until it is completely out. All the easy to get to bolts spin right out using your fingers once released....

I would speculate the bolt is protesting the use of the word spanner for an open end or box end wrench.:3DSMILE:

Funny but is seems to work that way. These days knowing this whenever I do a job I will fuss with the hard to get to bolts for that very reason. Also always make sure there is no more bolt than needed. Keep in mind the bolt needs 1 and a half times it's diameter in depth of thread contact to hold all it can hold.

I got a set of box end wrenches with a ratchet setup in them for just that reason and they work great for me. I just put them on the bolt and lock the ratchet to whichever way I want to turn the bolt and when it comes out the wrench isn't in the way.

I have a set of ratchet box ends and they are great for those stubborn nuts/bolts.

Snake2998 is a native of South Africa where our open end/combo wrench is called a "spanner". He knew what he was saying.

You did see the big smile? I've travelled the world and teasing friends over spanner and misspelling aluminum are favorite pastimes. It's all good:)

Where I come from a wrench is a muscle injury or something you do to your back and a box is a container.

And then we have the boot and bonnet thing as well, and whats with putting the steering on the left side of the car. Gas is a vapour and petrol a liquid that turns to vapour to fuel your engine so you fill the tank with petrol and the Carburetor initiates the conversion . Also Robots and Traffic Lights, Z's instead of S's etc. etc.

One of my favorites with my buds while down under was accusing them of mounting their satellite dishes backwards.

My apologies if my pretty obvious sarcasm led anyone to believe that I was disparaging Snake2998. I have no doubt that his post was not a serious request for bolt removal advice. One thing is common with most cultures (internet excluded), and that is a less than serious question doesn't have an expectation of a serious answer. Guys around here are so intent on bashing each other that they have forgotten how to have a little fun.

Mike - I enjoyed your comments. Yes my post was to reflect frustration after leaning over the car for 2 hours to pull 15 or so bolts - and I still have to buy an Allen Key that I can cut down to get access to the last bolt.

The word is Schraubenschuessel - wrench?

Tap it

Typically, if you GENTLY tap the spanner nut from all sides with a small hammer while twisting, it will turn by hand.
Hope it helps
