New engine for CSX3170

The new engine is finally done we had some water leak issues during dyno runs the last two weeks but made final power runs today. I am very happy with the results we went from 498 cid to 440 cid and lost 150 lb/ft at 4000 rpm and 84 lb/ft in peak torque. I was trying to reduce low speed torque as many of you who followed this saga know. The new set up makes 431 lb/ft at 3250 and 266 hp this is about 21 mph in first gear which should be perfect. The new engine is down about 10 horse power vs the 498 but makes it at higher rpm. Peak corrected power is 850 at 8000 and is still over 800 at 8750. It noses over at 9000 to the high 600's and drops to about 650 at 9100. It should run reliably to 9300 but we will not need much over 9000 for GoodGuys. Some interesting things, the tuner suggested we buy new Bosch 65# injectors with their superior spray pattern. This is the first time we made more power with the injection than the dyno Dominator they use for break in. This engine likes more advance than the stroker engine did. I hope it works as well in the car as it does on the dyno!

It is identical on the out side I posted pics of crank, rods, pistons, manifold and head work earlier should be in my gallery. The crank is a work of art as are the rods much smaller and lighter. Of course they have to be to turn that rpm.

Or in the case of Patrick.....no sense.

How about a video of the engine doing 9,000 RPM?

Post a video of it running so that we can hear it running. It must sound awesome at those high revs.

They did not video it at 9000 even though I asked for it. Will have to do an in car after it is installed. They made so many pulls below 8000 that it is half worn out already.

Interesting. How long do you expect this engine to last before it needs to get rebuilt?

2- 3 years unless something breaks. I have the best valve springs I could get and the crank and rods are also the best available so given that it should be as reliable as the old engine. Everything was perfect on the old engine and it was 3 years old. Valve springs had the same pressure as they did when installed and
the new ones are a higher grade of steel. Bearings could have been reused too. We change fluids regularly and spin the dry sump pump when ever the car sits too long.
