White Pipes - Redux

1 Attachment(s)
I finally found out some white paint that works on exhaust. Alvin High Temp Pure white with the gray primer is what I used. I had my pipes media blasted first and then power washed .I primed and let sit for 24 hours. I then applied the paint in two thin coats with about 20 minutes between coats for drying. I then used a friends infrared heater and baked them on each side for about a half hour at 180-190 degrees. The paint has stayed on and has not changed color even at the header collector pipes. This is the first stuff that I have had success. The VHT stuff always yellowed. A picture is shown below.

Good to know. Keep us posted on the longer term durability. I went through this nightmare last year with VHT. Did a similar scientific curing procedure you described. Freshly media blasted base, and their primer each time. One repeated failure after another and I followed their directions to the letter each time. Total waste of time and money. Got some cheapo Rustoleum BBQ paint (came in white) and it worked far better than the VHT. It changed color a bit at the collector but it didn't flake/bubble off like the VHT did.

I found what I think is the paint (SKU 290-00), but I'm not sure about the primer.

The primer is simply the gray. You can order it from the following:

I think the key is baking it on. Once it's on and cured it's also easy to touch up. I like it because it stays white.

Zinc Dust Primer is SKU-013-345 at $11.95 a can. There is definitely something different with this paint. the primer seems heavier. I have had it on about two weeks with no flaking or pealing or discoloring and I have heated the pipes up significantly. (:
