My first cobra project

Decided to take advantage of my wives Silhouette cutting machine and some 3m vinyl and make me some spats to protect my rear fenders. Kind of a pain to get right thanks to the compound curves, but I am pretty happy with the result. I have the template file to share if anyone wants to cut some for their ERA FIA car.

Those look great !

When I brought my car home last year, there wasn't a single nick on either rear fender, but I waited too long to put spats on it, and now (3000 miles later) both fenders look like leopard-print.

So if I did the spats now, it would purely be for camouflage, haha

of course, what good is protecting the rear fenders, when the front of my car is also looking like someone sprayed it with .410 bird shot...????

"patina, versus protection" There's no right answer, I guess.

I have kind of an unrelated question. I have been following byronpete21's posts about the purchase of his new Cobra. Each time he indicates that he has posted photos, I don't see anything, but according to other members responses, they are seeing his photos. I have tried looking at his photo gallery, but it says there are no photos in the gallery. Can someone explain why I'm not able to see his photos. I don't seem to have any issues seeing photos in other threads.

Thanks

Ted

I've got the same problem.

Ditto, I have not been able to see a single picture that he posted.

I will check my settings on my photo page and such. I promise I am posting photos, I have been around long enough to know the rules regarding the photo post.

It appears that my album was set to private. My sincerest apologies for the inconvenience. Hopefully that solved the issue.

Yup, that fixed it. Very nice car. I'm sure you have many smiles to come.

That looks great,

Did you look into clear "Helicopter" tape to use for this application, I'm about ready to do the same but prefer clear.

Thanks Bill

I thought about doing clear, and I have worked with the helicopter tape before. It goes on very similar to the 3m product. The key is patience and distilled water with baby shampoo. The water allows you to work all the bubbles out and maneuver it around without messing with the glue on the vinyl. A heat gun is a must as well at least with curvy areas. I went with the flat black to hide a few chips that were already there since I bought the car used.

Best Regards,
Byron
