Very bad for the spectators but it was just an all around dangerous sport back then. It was almost certain if you were a race car driver that they would be seriously injured in an accident and there was a very good chance they would die in it. Old Shelby raced during some of the most dangerous years. He was and we are very lucky he survived and got out when he did so he could develope the Cobra.
