I'm a heat shield fan now......
I have always loved the look of the side pipes without heat shields, just my preference but now I've had a change of heart. I have never burned my leg, but over the last two weeks two passengers after repeated warnings about getting out got the ole bite.
So I decided to grab some shields. I first looked at the "sleeve" that slide on but I couldn't find many reviews about it, so I went with the metal ones. After painting them to match I hardly notice they are there, and they work great! After an all day ride you can touch the shields and while they are warm they will not burn you.....The wife is thrilled. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4333/...64be6e66_b.jpgIMG_3663 by Randy Mally, on Flickrhttps://farm5.staticflickr.com/4351/...570a81ea_b.jpgIMG_3664 by Randy Mally, on Flickr |
Good move. I still feel bad about a good friends daughter who did the same - got it really bad too. Well done - now just don't touch the last 8-inches - could happen still. Good job.

Those look good, the flat black helps hide them !

Where did you pick them up? I'm interested but not sure which to go with and where to buy from. I'm also located in Canada.

Nice job - functional and still looks great.

Looks good.
I would still be concerned with bare skin touching the shields. This will definitely help when you are wearing jeans, though. I have ceramic coated exhaust, and I have heat shields with perforated holes. They are the same color as the pipes. Yours came out nice. |
Anyone try these in ceramic?

Hi Huskersnake, I have these on my Cobra. Bought from Finishline a few years ago. I wrapped the muffler section of the pipes with fiberglass exhaust wrap before putting the shields on, very warm to the touch but not scalding. It certainly keeps the heat down after some spirited driving.

awfink55,
Thanks for the feedback. I had not consided applying exhaust insulation. I appreciate the tip. huskersnake |
After a couple of friends got 'snake bit' (including a judge who said (jokingly) he was going to sue) I wrapped mine with exhaust tape. I did it in white and looks okay....kind of that rat rod, user look.
