Engine Mounts for Pond aluminium FE.

Hi guys

Firstly thank you everyone who has responded to my previous post about a clutch/T/O bearing. Quite an effort I know with the slow upload speed we are have at present. Anyhow, I'm in the UK about to install the above into my MK IV. FE info is thin on the ground here, so am really grateful for the info forthcoming on this forum.

Anyhow. I cannot seem to find any engine mounts for the FE side oiler like the Robert Pond based unit I have. There are four tapped holes in each side of the block.

All I can find is later FE 3 hole and early 2 hole, but not side oiler specific mounts. I'm concerned about the metalastic mounts anyhow as they, as far as I can see, are not tethered. In any case, as its aluminium, I'd like to use all four bolt holes each side and will be fabricating the chassis mounts anyhow.

Would be grateful to know what anybody else did with this block, as I considering making my own and would like to avoid that

I also have a Pond aluminum FE. The motor mounts I used are Republic 31-2222 (right) and 31-2223 (left). They are 2 hole for mounting to the block. I have had no issues.

Thanks Chris. Do you know if these are still available? I cant see them online, only the Anchor 2222 and 2223 listed by Summit, although I'm guessing these must be the same ??

The Anchor units look the same as mine. You can also search for Ford part numbers C3AZ-6038A,B. Those will work also.

ERA recommends drilling a hole though the rubber on the left mount and putting a 7/16 x 2 inch bolt through the mount with a stover nut on it for high Hp/TQ applications. This will keep the mount from pulling away from the rubber when the power is applied. If you search for ERA manual supplements (Google) this modification is shown.

contact Crites restorations, they sell a upgraded factory mount, the metal is a bit thicker, this will be a 3 hole mount, for added peace of mind instead of the drilling another hole in the mount, which gives you nothing, add a small heim on the front of the motor to the drivers cylinder head, attach the other end to the frame. this will guard body damage incase of a mount failure. note its not the bolts that fail, it will be the rubber separating from the mount, usually will occur on the drivers side.

The motor mount modification shown in this link Left engine mount modifications will accomplish the same as attaching a link from the head bolt to the frame, but it is more discreet.

Regardless of the method you use, it should be on the left side of the car when you are sitting in the drivers seat.

Be aware that we (ERA) don't use the original Cobra mount. We use one that lets us install the small block on the same frame stands.

i should have been more specific, the crites mounts are ford style mounts, found usually on mustangs, and/or galaxies. not factory style cobra mounts.

If the Pond replicates the original engines, shouldn't the motor mounts be the same ?

there are several FE mounts for the FE, depending on the frame mount, that will determine which you use in the car, but yes all of them will bolt up to the engine, but not all if any for that matter will bolt to the car, i like when a manufacturer takes availability of parts when they design their car. my car uses the mustang style. the frame mount can be used on a small block or a big block, i even added an additional welded appendage that will allow me to also install a 385 series motor(351C-460)
