Dmv fail
I applied to the PA DMV for a antique vanity license plate a few weeks ago and it arrived earlier this week. I immediately opened the large envelope only to find my antique plate was wrong. The plate had what appeared to be a generic number (4T06). I had asked for AC66. I told the girl at the tag & title service that it was wrong so she immediately placed a call to someone at DMV and left a message. She told me to take the license and registration for now and she would get back to me.The next morning I got a call from her saying that she had the correct plate and registration. There's no way the DMV could've made a new plate in less than 24Hrs. I picked them up later that day.
How does the DMV make 2 plates and 2 registrations for the same person? Anyone ever had something like this happen to them? Anyway my car is finished except for the headers and sidepipes which are being ceramic coated. I expect to have it running before Christmas. |
I can only tell you what a friend of mine who used to run the license plate shop at Folsom Prison told me. I asked him why it took so long to get a specialty plate here and he told me it was just the DMV messing around. He said the day they received a request for any of them they did them and had them out that same day. I am not sure what happened with you in your state but maybe the DMV had your plates and just gave you the wrong ones the first time.

Safe bet that someone put the wrong one in the package for you. These people do not have a stellar reputation for efficiency! JMHO.

she made the mistake and simply gave you the wrong plate, your correct plate was there all the time.
oh and the prison hasn't made license plates in PA for 20 plus years. |
If that is the only DMV fail/complaint you have....until I can post my horror story over a 2.5 month + and continuing ordeal.....you will want to make some popcorn while reading it.

I'd give that dmv a 10 rating and that gal a hi five for gettin 'er done!

I'm still at war with PennDOT trying to get my Cobra titled and licensed since Oct. Alabama (where I purchased the car from) doesn't have a "paper title," so they are giving me all kinds of grief. I even went to our state representative's office, he claims everything is in order, but still no title and registration yet. I'll be contacting them again this coming week.

To be honest, your best bet is to go through the Special Constructed title process CLICK HERE The process is quite simple, and when you are done, will have an emissions exempt vehicle with a proper state issued VIN and VIN tag. Hundreds of Cobra replicas have been through it without a hitch. So while you are fighting with the DMV, you might consider asking them if switching to the MV-426B and special constructed might be the way to go. Finally, know where in PA you are located would help us guide you to people in your area with the proper contacts to make titling your car run smoother, again if you are not trying to reinvent the wheel with the special titles division in Harrisburg. |

Hopefully all this gets straitened out as I want to have it aligned, greased, etc. before car show season. |
