Home sick project: fix flapping tonneau

Home with the flu "resting"
Bought the lift a dot kit with the machine thread studs (8-32) and the crimp on dots. Marked and installed one of the dots on the tonneau mid passenger door above the side curtain ferrule. This is a bit of a trick as you crimp to the upper layer of the two layer vinyl cover...takes a bit of maneuvering with some little dental tools.

The neat little device consists of one of the studs, an 8-32 coupler, another 8-32 bolt with its head ground off and finally a plastic know with 8-32 threads. I ardjusted the length then loctite red'd everything and put some shrink wrap to finish.

So install consists of putting the top on normally with th fwd passenger corner left open, reach under stick the little pin up through snap the cover on and done.

No more big gap over the door.

I'm wanting to fit my car with a tonneau and possibly a top and side curtains. Is there a recommended source?

I had a boat repair/upholstery shop make my tonneau cover. They have lots of experience with custom designs. I am very pleased with it and I didn't have an extortionate bill, afterwards. If you go that route, he sure to get the dividing zipper and two or three hold down straps to control flapping. Snaps won't make it On the hold downs. I used the male push and turn buttons that go through the female fitting. As far as the top and side curtains...hang on to your hat. Taint going to be low buck.

Flapping Cures

Also thinking about having a sail-maker friend sew in a batten down the middle so as to stiffen it up for solo riding half closed.

I am very partial to doing this as the heater is MUCH more effective with half the cockpit closed off.

You have a heater?;)

jhv48 02-01-2018 12:45 PM

What’s a heater for?

Exactly. It'll just add weight!;)
