Some of the self-sealing tape for radiator hose repairs is handy and it can be used for electrical wrap as well. A can of "Fix A Flat" for small punctures to help you limp to help. And of course a 6# lead hammer and safety wire.

The creative use of zip ties, duct tape, and baling wire has let me limp home more often than any wrench, socket, screwdriver, or hammer ever did.:cool:

Spare coil. I've had two fail and easy, 5 minute roadside replacement both times.

MSD high vibration coils. Engine mounted vertically - MSD said that wasn't a factor and replaced both under warranty.

I second the radiator wrap, I've used it twice and once on a country highway at 2:30 in the AM. Nobody around for many,.....miles. Wrapped the hose, added some water and on the road again. I don't know what I had done without it ! :cool: Always,.........Duct tape ! I also have in my trunk a medium size tool box with sockets, screw drivers, wire, small hammer etc. A emergency kit, both medical kit and road kit with flash light, flashing help lighting and a over the counter phone. These don't take much room, and can save your or someone's life. ;) |

2. First Aid kit (With box of second skin for burns) 3. AAA tow service telephone number. (if not included on insurance) 4. Map or GPS so you can give directions to tow service 5. Fix a Flat (2) cans. (Big tires!) 6. Small 12v air compressor 7. Tire plug kit 8. Small self contained tool kit with sockets/wrenches Needs pliers, screwdriver with multiple bits. 9. (2) Adjustable end wrenches 10. Small LED flashlight (Batteries last longer and holds up to vibration etc...) 11. Pocket knife 12. Fuses (Ones needed to make the car run) 13. Tape (Duct tape and or electrical) 14. Cheap plastic drop cloth (Used for emergency waterproofing or laying on) 15. Volt meter / tester 16. Rags 17. Gloves 18. Small roll of bailing wire 19. Plastic Tie Wraps |
To everyone's suggestions on what to carry I would add this product, it's called a Clamptite. It can make emergency or permanent hose clamps out of wire.

Long ride, long gun. Always a handgun - don't leave home without it. Nothing wrong with a handgun and a carbine of choice with a fair quantity of loaded mags and spare ammo.
I carried my tool bag with most of the tools that I used to work on the car. Fix a flat or what ever the can is called. Flashlights. A few spare parts. Appropriate fluids. Water, food, blanket, rain poncho and normal comfort accessories. I've broken an engine while travelling but otherwise the only failure was an ignition switch. Jim |
