Keeping Drivers Floormat in Place
What are folks doing to keep the floor mat from sliding forward? Previous owner of my Cobra used Velcro which sticks well to the carpet but not to the mat. Has anyone installed a ferrule and hook like most new cars have? Tired of the mat bunching up under the pedals, not safe.

I did a couple of things and both worked well. I used the ferrule hook as you said but had to be careful to get the hole in the mat just right. In the other car I use two strips of double sided tape and it stuck to the mat and carpet very well and lasted for over a year before I had to change it. I also have rubber backed mats with small dimples on them that seem to hold them in place well as the dimples stick into the carper but not very far.

I've used the carpet socket type fasteners which work well for mats. Here's a link to a variety of fasteners for carpeting,etc.

Drive a screw with a large diameter body washer right through the floorboard. That will stop it !!!!

I did it the cheap-o way - put a couple of grommets in the back (ie seat side) of the floor mat and tie-wrapped them to the seat supports. That way I did not have to do anything to my carpet. Keeps them from sliding forward. The Mat Loc product looks like the way to go though.

I did the simplest and easiest thing to do.
I just picked up the carpet, placed it in the trunk or behind the seat, and had the exposed fiberglass to rest my feet on. When I stopped, you place the carpet back, and your car looks perfect. No cost, no Gerry-rigging, no screws or other things pushed thru your floor, of course this works like magic if you have an original car, or if your mats also use snaps to secure them. |
Easy fix!
Learned this from 3020. Lift a dot just like on tonneau and soft top. Put the pin through the floor and the lift a dot on mat. Worked for me for 10 plus years. Cost was about $5 |
I believe this is what I discussed just above your post, the snaps, the lift-a-dot snaps, that are original,,, to original cars,,, to attach the carpet, to the fiberglass floor, so you can remove them for easy cleaning, or to remove them to prevent excessive wear/ abuse if your racing your car, etc. etc.

I put a small hole in the floor mat and put a tie wrap through and connected it to the lever for seat adjustment. It has never moved again.

I just take the floor mat and put it in the trunk when I drive. Only use it for shows or cruise nights. Easier to replace the basic carpet under my heel and cover the patch with the mat! yes I'm lazy, but I just want to drive the car not work on it. To each his own said the farmer as he kissed the pig on the nose. Enjoy the ride.

I sewed that white 3M Velcro to the back of the matts which sticks like glue to Superformance carpeting. I also have the stuff on the back of my cell phone, garage and gate remotes, and sunglasses case.
