Carbon Fiber Heat Shields

Guys,
I got my first two snake bites on Thursday. Though I don’t like the look I’m going to put some heat shields on the pipes. I found a guy that makes carbon fiber pipes that he can adapt for my heat shield application. I’m interested in what you think of the look. My pipes are flat black and the carbon fiber can be made in such a way that it is not shinny. The temperatures with the air gap at 1 inch of separation are acceptable for the rating of the materials.

If you don't like the look of the heat shields, try this instead: buy a black welding blanket and cut it so it locks under your seats on one side and touches the ground on the other. It looks just like the black carpet most of us use and will roll up (when not in use) and fit in the valley between your seat and the door sills. You won't have to take your pipes off to install it, and, if you don't like it, you haven't wasted more than $10 and an hour or so of work.

I'm a composites guy and have made some carbon parts for my car. All are or will be painted. Just don't like the look on a cobra.

Mike,
Are you interested in making these? I’m far more comfortable dealing with someone who has experience with the Cobras than starting from scratch.

Thanks but no. I suggest asking him what the service temp is on the resin he is using. If he says 350 then you are probably OK. If he is non committal run away.
