Brakes sometimes dragging
Just turned 650 miles on new to me, 2017 BDR. last 3 times i had it out, the brakes start dragging like I’m riding the brake. Can’t tell yet if it happens cause they’re heating up or when I stab them for a hard braking.... definitely seems to happen right after driving it hard though. If it just sits for 5-10 minutes, they let go and free up. When it happens, they sometimes drag hard enough that it stops the car quicker than engine breaking and really heat up quick. Then I need to pull over and wait for them to cool down. Any thoughts on what could be causing it and how to troubleshoot/fix.
I confirmed, it’s both front wheels when it happens, not limited to a single caliper. |
I recently read on this site a new BDR with sticking calipers (leaked as well if I remember right) that had been Powder coated while still assembled (pistons/ etc...) and baked in the oven by the Boynton Bch folks.
Another new BDR had a bad Brake booster. I assume it was applying pressure and not retracting. If you can while the brakes are hot pull a front wheel and crack the bleeder screw. If its under pressure and brake frees up then its upstream in the Master or Booster. To isolate the booster disconnect the Vac line at the booster and leave the booster port open. Plug the vac line with a bolt. Take another test drive. |
Interesting find.... just had it happen again and i jumped out and pulled the vac hose from the brake booster. It sucked in a quick puff of air and the brakes immediately released. How can i find why vacuum is getting pent up and sucking in the brakes??

Booster pushrod needs to be shortened.

Unfortunately the atmospheric vacuum vent is inside the booster or could be the main return spring.
