64 Sebring film

This film is made by Ford of England but has many images and mentions of Cobras in it. Lots of famous drivers included.

Thanks for posting that great video. Enjoyed seeing the Lotus Cortina's which are a ball to drive, especially in the "twisties".

Good video, thanks for posting it. I enjoy seeing the older cars that I can actually recognize.

The cortinas looked as if you could just blow them over they leaned so much! The cobras leaned a lot too.

Exc. Video, t walgamuth. But sorry boy's you just can't beat a ALFA! I know, I know it was a Zagato :)) Only good handing under 2-litre cars went around corner's Cortina's, Alfa's, etc. with their, ass end hunkered down and front wheel dangling high in the air, good fun. I've played over the years with "Fast" Cortina's the best view of those is in my rear view mirror ;) Cheers Tom.

I got it over from the Studebaker forum.;) (There is a GT Hawk in it a couple of places).

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm at Sebring every month. Headed there Saturday. This was awesome.

According to the narrator, the 1.6 liter Cortina (that is shaped like a brick) was doing 140 MPH on the straight. Extraordinary! And a little hard to believe.

t walgamuth 06-14-2018 06:06 AM

I remember thinking that too.;)

The pit stop looked like a study in "casual indifference".

t walgamuth 06-14-2018 08:25 AM

Indeed, nothing like today!;)

Alfa02 06-14-2018 08:54 AM

Let give you this to chew on, boy's. A Alfa Giulia Super (4-door) that has the shape of a brick, has far better aerodynamics, then my (2-door) Giulia GTV Coupe. Don't know why, but it's a fact. GTV's look like they could split the wind. Took 10K (engine work) to add 9MPH in (134 to 143) top speed. That was just enough to keep (Cortina's, 2002's, 356's, 510's, Elva's etc) from ganging up and drafting by. Gearing (5-speed) and Brakes (4-wheel Disc) is what made a well driven GTV unbeatable. 140 MPH in a Cortina, not easy but yes can be done. Cheers Tom.

Cool!

Tommy 06-14-2018 01:50 PM

Ok, I can believe a Cortina once touched 140 while drafting behind that Ford Galaxy. But I still doubt that their unassisted straightline speed was that high.

Edit: Here's what I mean.

t walgamuth 06-14-2018 02:18 PM

Its hard to imagine unassisted speed higher than 115 or 120. 'course if they used the speedometer to measure it many cars back then were 20 mph optimistic.
