Spare tyre

No.... not talking about my personal spare tyre :o

A thread by Blas regarding garage floor jacks... [ http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/all-...endations.html ] ....made me start thinking about whether I should figure on carrying a spare wheel/tyre when my car finally hits the road.

So - how many of you guys carry a spare, and also is there a 'thin' alternative alloy 15" knock-off wheel and tyre easily available that will fit our cars? A skinny one might look a little funny, but it would beat waiting on the side of the road for a flatbed.

Cheers,
Glen

I don't carry a spare. In lieu of the spare I carry items very similar to these. They all fit into the bag that came with the compressor, that measures approx. 12" x 10" x 8".

Ditto HTM101 - in 25 years never needed it - the only flat I had was a torn valve stem - think a vandal kicked it to break it, happened within 200m of a tyre shop so no problem..

I carry a spare 205\15 in my factory five. It has saved my butt once. Retrived a box cutter blade from inside the tire that left a approximately 1 1\8" long hole that no inflator can would work on. It was a back road and late afternoon so "I carry". The question of what do you do with the take off is the passenger seat for me as I drive alone. (Way too large for trunk) If you run fresh tires with deep tread usually you're safe. My rears were nearly bald for some reason...

I have a 15" pin-drive mini spare that I got from Cobra Restorers Ltd.

I carried a mini spare for one Starlite Rally in 1992 because it was required by the organization. After that, I just carry a couple of cans of "Fix-A-Flat" and a tire plug kit. The worst thing that happened was on a 6 hour rally up near Palmdale when I ran over something that put a 2" gash in the side wall on my left rear tire. It took 2 cans to get it pumped up and I was surprised that it held air at all. After the finish and awards ceremony, I borrowed a couple of cans from other people and filled it up again to make the hour drive home. That stuff has some kind of fiber in it and works very well.
