Importing a Cobra Replica Kit from the Uk to the USA

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in importing a Cobra replica kit form the UK the US but I am not sure if it's doable. I was wondering if anybody has gone thru this experience or may know the hurdles of getting something like this done.
I read thru tons of articles and websites about EPA, DOT, Customs regulations but there is nothing about replica car/kit cars.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Samy:(

I was told that there are a few company's that do it for you. Call a Customs broker and they should have a list .

On a new kit you will pay minimum 10% duty and 20% vat. Same on engines, anything at all from non EU countries. So importing is 30% more expensive that buying a the same quality kit in the UK. On top of that maybe £3000 for shipping. Plus the manufacturer probably wont really be able to advise in detail about IVA and what you need to do get it MoT'd and registered. UK kits like Hawk, Dax, AK etc are already designed so you can pass the test.

Hi AC Ventura,

It's actually from the UK to the USA (and not the other way around).

Thanks

All I know is that the U.S. has a 25-year import prohibition on cars that don't comply with American safety and emissions standards. This means the car you buy will need to be at least this old or you risk having it seized by U.S. Customs.

just a thought: with the abundance of used cobras (real and replicas) available here in the US, why not sell the one in the UK in the UK and purchase another one here?
Of course, you might have personal reasons for wanting to import yours %/

True. Complete cars are prohibited. The only way around this is to disassemble and bring the thing in in separate parts, preferably in separate shipments. Then, you'll probably still have to show Certificates of Origin for the main pieces.

Why import a kit from the UK? As others have stated there are a lot of options here in the US.
