Looking for info on KCC Cobras, need help registering car

Hi all,
so I finally have my KCC brought up to spec to pass the emissions here in Hong Kong. I had 4 cats added, 2 on each side integrated into the side pipes and covered by the heat shield. I got a pass on the sound compliance as it's a 20 year old car
I'm still doing the paperwork for the registration and have hit another snag. The government bureaucrats at the Traffic Department want to register the car as a real AC Cobra and tax me according to market prices for a real AC Cobra! :(
How can I prove to them that it's a KCC replica build?
The government workers aren't car guys, they just follow instructions out a book. Some of them look like they just got out of college.
If anyone has any documentation on KCC (eg build pics, manuals etc), or any suggestions, please let me know.
I'm trying to compile as much documentation as I can to build a case for the car.

many thanks

regards
Ken

Ken,

For one thing if the body is fiberglass none of the originals were. They were all aluminum. Also they had the CSX numbers in several places, a couple of them kind of hard to find if you don't know what you are looking for. Have you tried a search for KCC Cobras? And what kind of engine does it have in it? Shelby only used 221, 260,427, and 428 engines in the originals.

Here is what one of the members of our site posted as he is in South Africa and one of our members found one some time ago and was asking about it.

Here in SA, there was a company called Kit Car Centre that produced both kits and completed cars for prospective clients. Sometimes these cars were/are referred to as "KCC" cars. Both Q and I have such varients. To my best knowledge, the company was liquidated about 5 years ago, and closed shop.

The easiest way to identify if it is a KCC, is to check the VIN or chassis number. If it starts with KCC, then it may have originated from South Africa, as I know that there were a few kits/cars that were exported to Europe and the USA over the years.

The chassis/VIN number was normally punched onto the middle of the front upper cross member, usually directly underneath where the header tank is fitted.

Thats the closest I can get to "KC Motor company", but some of my fellow country men might know better......x4e

Will the government accept a letter from a certified, independent appraiser? One would think they could easily compare such valuation to what their book says an original car is worth and go from there. That would also give them market value for purposes of taxation.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions
(sorry for the late reply, been swamped at work)

I was able to find the vin under the water tank, but oddly it did not start with a KCC prefix on the VIN (as I heard about other KCC Cobras)
my car has a AAPV prefix.
And my car was brought in from South Africa

Anyways we submitted the new "evidence" to the Transport department. Waiting on their reply now.
