Best Heat Shield For Foot Boxes ?
The headers on my Arntz are within 2" of the footboxes where the pedals are located. I don't want Cobra hot foot. The original Arntz setup was a shield that was set off from the footboxes where air could cool the backside of the shield.
With today's technology there's bound to be a better way... Suggestions ? Thanks, Jim |
Jim: What are Pontoons? Do you mean the foot boxes? If so, there is a heat shield material with silver foil on one side and an adhesive on the other. As I recall from my build, this was sold in rolls. The silver foil was/is kind of waffle dimpled. My supply was from ERA. However I suspect that this is a rather ubiquitous material and is available from many sources of supply.
Additionally, my ERA has be fitted with the optional triangular wire vents which allows warm air from the header collector area to pass into the front wheel wells and relieves air build up in the engine compartment at high speeds. Also, optional ducting from the cold air ducts is aimed at the front disc calipers and rotor as well via a 3 1/2 inch "y" connector. This promotes air flow over the front disc brake assemblies. This was a common practice and there are some very old photos of this setup in the Getty photo archives particularly with the #7 427 SC race car. |
I think Arntz called them pontoons, but they are better described as foot boxes. I changed the post.

Ok, makes sense Jim. I think the product is called Thermo-Tec adhesive heat shield. It is sold in sheets of 12" by 24" perhaps even larger. I see it on Summit, Jegs, etc. You may want to contact Pegasus racing to see if they have something else that they could suggest.

Thanks to all.... looks like a good winter project. Does it add additional dust etc to the engine compartment in anyone’s opinion? I find the #7 up on jack stands photo but see no wheel well vents in that photo just the side vent. The link posted take me to some weird advertisement site.
