Taurus fan controller?
 

Hi guys. So I have a new Dorman 620-101 2 Speed Taurus (single) fan ready to wire up, once I acquire a controller. I’ve tried DC Controllers, but despite wanting to place an order they have stopped responding to (my) emails.
I see Hayden make a unit, but this seems to be listed as dual fan, 2 speed, not single fan, 2 speed. Can anybody please recommend the unit I need and can get hold of quickly? Many thanks. Mike in U.K..

Fan Relay
 

I use a relay from a Volvo 850, got it for $10 in a junk yard...a BMW 2 temp thermostat switch. Had to buy a brass fitting and tap it to 14mm. Google Taurus fan Volvo relay ....

i used the flexalite controller (one with a t-stat bung) on the taurus and lincoln fans.
works nice

I've had the Taurus fan in mine since 2012. I think I was the first on the board to use the setup. I used the "Hollister Road" thermostat/wiring setup. I'm not sure if they're still in business.

To ACVentura (apologies I forgot your first name); I tried to buy their (DC Controls) product four or more years ago and could not get a response from them — and they are 25 / 30 miles from where I live. It appears the business was/is a hobby business that the owner attends to on an unpredictable and irregular schedule.

At the time I found a company down in Texas, The Hollister Road Company, that had half the solution I was looking for. Their unit controlled only an electric water pump or an electric fan. I forget which but I wanted both.

They eventually agreed to build a unit for me that did both. The design and debug took about a year or so. Their unit requires removal of the t-stat from the cooling system and used a temp sensor instead for a closed loop temperature control.

When you start the car, only the water pump runs and only at a relatively slow speed. As engine temperature changes the water pump speed seamlessly increases (or decreases) to maintain your "set temperature", whatever you may have chosen. It also seamlessly ramps fan speed to maintain your "set temp".

At road speed if the airflow through the radiator is adequate to cool the engine the closed loop control circuit will slow down or stop the fan to maintain the target temp you chose. The water pump exhibits a similar change in operating speed to maintain engine coolant set temp.. When you park the car and shut it off both the fan and water pump will run on for 60 to 90 seconds to progressively cool down the engine — very nice unit.

Their website appears to be down right now but the guy's name was Dave Chapman. My prototype unit was pricey. The production units were quite a bit less expensive. I want to say he priced them right at $250 if I remember correctly. If you are interested PM me and I'll give you his phone number. Another source to look at is deltapag.com they have a nice two fan control system and a duel relay setup, call them and ask them about their new setup controller (not on their web site yet) that starts off at low amps and increases amps ie. fan speed as the temperature goes up, so it does not cause electrical spikes.

Thanks guys. I’m amazed there’s off the shelf solution. Two speed fans are common place in Europe. Anyhow, can’t wait. I’m going to use the BMW 91/99 deg C (195/210 deg F) two temp in-radiator switch (or similar) and the Volvo 850 dual relay. Seems to work for most using the Taurus unit, lots of wiring drgs online and at least these should be reliable components, if a bit messy. I will post what happens. Holister defunct it seems I am afraid. Delta Pag, might be good but can’t wait.
