In-car communication/intercom
What over-ear headset setups do some of you guys use on long trips to have a comfortable conversation with the passenger and even listen to music or answer phone calls? I know of the Starcom intercom console, but with what headsets and other parts needed?

FYI some states it is illegal to wear head phones while driving.

Earbuds for music with an ipod. Can still hear engine and external noise. Great sound and way better than anything you'll get with a more traditional stereo system, at least in my opinion.
https://www.etymotic.com/ These earplugs when just driving, even with a helmet on the track. Can still hear everything that is necessary. https://www.surefire.com/ep3-sonic-defenders.html I seldom drive w/o some form of ear protection. Never had a problem with LE in 65k Cobra miles. I would not sacrifice my hearing, or what's left of it, to avoid a ticket. I've looked at communication systems, not for road use but for track sessions but haven't spent the money. There are many varieties and sources. Jim |
This is the type of system that I am actually referring to... Kit Car Systems For Hands Free/Noise Free Driving Experience
|
That will attract negative attention from the local LE.

Don't know how that could be allowed anywhere in the world. Gary |
Interesting question. I use ear plugs with a Aftershokz Trex Titanium to listen to GPS/music from my phone, but I doubt it would be good for talking to a passenger (it has a mic, but my attempts to use it for voice commands with the engine running were futile).

Comm. set.

You might check out SENNA systems. Bluetooth, no wires connecting, can be set up with speakers in helmet, or ear buds.

This system is used in Radio Control Car racing for communication between the driver up on the stand and his pitman below him who does refuelling of the nitro powered car. A very noisy environment. But these headsets have one cup only, leaving the other ear open for us Cobra drivers to hear our surroundings. Best of both worlds! Not cheap, though...
