Tremec's New HP-MTF Transmission Fluid
A lot of us around here have older TKOs. Mine was manufactured in 2006. In Tremec's 2018 Performance Product Guide http://www.tremec.com/anexos/2018_Pe...duct-Guide.pdf it says their HP-MTF transmission fluid is only for Tremec transmissions produced from 2008 to current. So, I wrote them and asked if that was really true or if I could use their new fluid in my 2006 TKO600. Here is their response:

Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone gives a shi* and actually goes to the trouble of changing out their fluid. |
Thanks patickt, I was just about to change my fluid's as we get to final assy. of my car, since everything is all NOS pieces. Oil from 2006 that has just sat in the gearbox need's to be changed anyway, new fluid, makes a Happy new transmission. Cheers.

What about topping off, can it be mixed with other types of transmission fluids?

TKO-600 new in 2004, Liberty mods in 2011 or 12. 65,000 miles or thereabouts.
Started w/ Dexron as recommended, ran Cobra Valley's Ultra-Shift, Royal Purple SynchroMax and finally Red Line MTL. I didn't notice any real differences in shifting with the various fluids although others have indicated a difference. Liberty didn't mention any serious wear issues during the rebuild/mods. Planning on continuing with MTL when I complete the current build. I too have heard about running the fluid a bit low, perhaps a third of a quart low, sorry don't remember the exact amount Supposed to improve shifting due to less fluid for the gears & synchros to turn through. Patrick,
I did run my TKO-600 a bit low. No formal experimentation, didn't log results. Doubt that I had it at 0.75" low, maybe half of that. Didn't blow up, didn't notice any real change. I don't really like the way it shifts, fluid isn't going to change that. Jim |
I changed my tko600 fluid to royal purple just because it's what I could get locally.
The engine/trans went in around 2007, I doubt the trans fluid was changed since then (30k+). It came out looking like I could probably reuse it Oh well, fresh fluid makes me FEEL better anyways. Shifting is about the same as before. |
Smoother shifting
