Front end, as much of it as can be seen, looks like the later Opel GT.
How can an entire article about Ford midengined cars not mention the GT40 or the Pantera???

If you haven't ridden in a Pantera you don't appreciate how noisy a mid engine performance car can be. The sound levels are impressive and get old fast especially on a trip of any duration — almost as bad as side pipes. It will be interesting to see how GM handles it.

I agree with Ed about the noise in a Pantera. I was going to buy one and when I went to the dealers and took it for a test drive I didn't like that noise at all. Hopefully by now they have came up with a way to lessen it.

Nice car!

I recall the Mach 2 from my youth.

I have no doubt cockpit noise from an engine mere inches from the driver's ears would be challenge. Notwithstanding, double wall glass and firewall with sound-deadening insulation would probably tame that somewhat - perhaps considerably. Automotive engineers have learned a lot over the past 50 years about how to deal with NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness).

Noise? Uncomfortable? And that made you not buy one? You're buying a High Performance car, loud engine sound is supposed to be there, be it side pipes, or mid engine.

I enjoyed EVERY minute of driving my Pantera, if I wanted quiet, I would have bought a Lincoln!

I had a 71 Pantera with the GTS performance exhaust system. I didn't think it was that loud. It could be loud standing next to the car and revving the engine but in the car it was fine. It did have annoying resonance at about 2200 rpm which was characteristic of the short exhaust system. Many of the Panteras have been modified with performance exhaust systems that are very loud.
